Role description
My client is hiring a Senior Data Engineer for a high‑impact contract role. If you care about engineering rigour, production‑grade data systems, and working alongside serious software talent, this is the environment you want. This is a 6‑month initial contract, inside IR35, fully remote within the UK. The Work You'll engineer data systems that sit at the centre of major platform and software modernisation programmes. No isolated data teams. No throwaway pipelines. You'll be delivering production systems that matter. You'll focus on three core areas: • Data Foundations: building reliable, scalable, well‑modelled data layers • Data Modernisation: replacing legacy ETL with automated testing, data contracts, and domain‑aligned models • AI‑Ready Data Enablement: feature pipelines, lineage, quality guardrails, and scalable compute for ML and AI You think like a software engineer. You build in small increments. You let tests shape your design. You care about operability, maintainability, and clarity. You collaborate tightly with engineers, architects, data scientists, and stakeholders. You don't chase tools. You build durable systems. What You Bring Data Engineering Practices • Testable pipelines, strong version control, first‑class data models • Experience with schema evolution, data contracts, incremental delivery Databricks Expertise • Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks Workflows • Notebook‑to‑production patterns • Lakehouse and medallion architecture understanding ML & AI Data Engineering • Feature pipelines, feature tables, MLflow tracking and registry • Dataset versioning and lineage • Experience with embeddings, retrieval pipelines, vector stores, evaluation datasets Software Engineering Foundations • Clean code, meaningful abstraction, CI/CD for data pipelines • Infrastructure‑as‑code familiarity Production Readiness • Monitoring, alerting, data quality validation, lineage, operational discipline Cloud Platforms • Experience with AWS or Azure • Understanding of cloud‑native storage, compute, orchestration Collaboration & Client Engagement • Clear communication with technical and non‑technical audiences • Pragmatic decision‑making in complex, real‑world environments If you're a senior engineer who wants to work in a consultancy that values engineering craft, expects high standards, and gives you the space to build systems that last. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your CV to be considered for this exciting contract opportunity.
