Role description
One of the country's largest fashion retail companies is searching for a Data Engineer to join their Supply Chain Data & AI team 100% remotely (PST hours required). In this role, you will design and build scalable, cloud-native data pipelines and products that power analytics and AI initiatives across Sourcing, Transportation, and Warehouse Management domains. You will work at the intersection of engineering and business impact, transforming raw enterprise data into trusted, high-quality assets that drive operational excellence and strategic decision-making across a complex, global supply chain. This exciting opportunity to build cutting-edge data infrastructure at scale begins as an 18-month W2 contract with remote flexibility for candidates based in or able to work Pacific Standard Time (PST). During the contract you will have access to the competitive benefits outlined below and be eligible for potential extension or conversion of your assignment based on performance and business needs. Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) • Build and optimize data solutions leveraging Dataproc, BigQuery, SQL, and dbt • Develop and sustain high-quality data models that support reporting, analytics, and AI use cases • Ingest, transform, validate, and publish data from multiple enterprise source systems • Partner with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Data Architects, and engineering teams to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions • Create reusable data transformation components while adhering to established engineering standards and best practices • Optimize data pipelines for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency • Conduct unit testing, data validation, and production support to maintain data quality and operational stability • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and code reviews • Document technical designs, data flows, and implementation details Skills & Experience • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will be considered • 4+ years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering • Proven experience building data solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) • Strong proficiency with Dataproc, BigQuery, SQL, and dbt (Data Build Tool) • Solid understanding of data modeling techniques including dimensional modeling and analytical data warehouse design • Experience architecting and scaling ETL/ELT pipelines to process large, complex datasets • Familiarity with software development best practices including Git-based version control and CI/CD workflows • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within Agile team environments • Customer-focused mindset with a drive to continuously improve engineering practices Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration • Familiarity with Apache Kafka or other event streaming platforms • Working knowledge of PySpark for distributed data processing • Experience using Python for data engineering, scripting, and automation • Understanding of data quality, metadata management, and data governance principles • Domain experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable: retail/apparel industry, supply chain data platforms, transportation and logistics, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), or distribution center operations You will receive the following benefits: • Medical Insurance - Four medical plans to choose from for you and your family • Dental & Orthodontia Benefits • Vision Benefits • Health Savings Account (HSA) • Health and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts • Voluntary Life Insurance, Long-Term & Short-Term Disability Insurance • Hospital Indemnity Insurance • Paid Sick Time Leave • Legal and Identity Protection Plans • Pre-tax Commuter Benefit • 529 College Saver Plan Motion Recruitment Partners is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability/vets.
