Data Engineer

GeBBS Consulting, a leader in Healthcare Technology solutions, is helping a major Life Sciences partner to identify a strong Data Engineer to support a variety of initiatives. This is a fully remote opportunity but will support EST hours. Position Description: The Data Engineer will be pivotal in our partner’s ongoing implementation of the TetraScience Scientific Data and AI platform within their organization. The Data Engineer will be responsible for transforming data from multiple different sources and laboratory systems (such as Electronic Lab Notebooks/ELNs or Laboratory Information Management Systems/LIMS) to be ingested into REST APIs within an AWS Cloud environment. They will design, build, and support scalable scientific data pipelines that ingest, transform, and harmonize laboratory instrument and informatics data into the TetraScience Scientific Data Cloud / Tetra Data Platform (TDP). This role will partner with scientists and engineering teams to deliver reliable, traceable, and compliant data flows across lab ecosystems (instruments, ELN, LIMS, SDMS), enabling downstream analytics and operational use cases. What You’ll Get to Do: • Build and maintain end-to-end pipelines to ingest scientific data into TetraScience, including trigger-based processing and orchestration patterns. • Implement ETL/ELT transformations to produce standardized, analysis-ready outputs and reusable pipeline components. • Develop/productionize parsers and data schemas for diverse scientific formats (e.g., .xlsx, .pdf, .txt, .raw, .fid and other vendor binaries • Design and evolve data models aligned to scientific workflows and integration patterns (instrument → SDMS/ELN/LIMS). • Engineer cloud-native pipeline components leveraging AWS primitives commonly used with TDP deployments (e.g., containerized services + Lambda + S3 + query via Athena). • Implement observability and operational monitoring using AWS-native monitoring patterns (dashboards/alarms/metrics). • Integrate with lab and enterprise systems using REST APIs and managed gateway patterns; support secure data exchange between instrument sources and informatics targets. • Collaborate on bidirectional integration use cases across ELN/LIMS/SDMS ecosystems. • Build automated unit/integration tests for pipelines, ensure data integrity checks, and support audit-ready traceability practices. • Troubleshoot pipeline failures using logs/metrics and implement resilient error handling and retries. • Work with product owners, solution architects, scientists, and cross-functional teams to ensure pipelines fulfill scientific and operational requirements and deliver measurable value. You’ll Bring these Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or related discipline. • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Python/SQL data engineering experience. • Experience working with the following tools and technologies: • Python • SQL (Amazon Athena) • AWS VPC, Lambda, SQS, EventBridge, EC2, S3, CloudWatch • Grafana • CI/CD Pipeline Setup • REST APIs/API Gateways • React and JavaScript • Experience working within the Life Sciences industry and/or knowledge of ELN/LIMS/SDMS concepts with the ability to clearly articulate how laboratory data moves across systems. • Dockerization/Containerization experience desired. • Familiarity with TDP deployment desired.
