Job Title: Data Engineer III Job Description This role focuses on building robust data pipelines, backend services, and analytics components that support compliance automation for a global satellite communications service. You will work within established architectural patterns and under the guidance of an engineering team to implement data systems and production services that help the organization meet regulatory obligations across multiple jurisdictions worldwide. You will collaborate closely with compliance specialists and operations staff, delivering reliable, secure, and auditable data solutions that power critical compliance workflows. Responsibilities • Implement logical and physical data models and ETL/ELT pipelines that consolidate multi-jurisdiction compliance data into queryable and auditable datasets. • Design, build, and maintain event-driven integration components, including data pipelines, Lambda functions, and Step Functions workflows that feed notification systems, ticketing workflows, and regulatory filing processes. • Implement backend services such as APIs, workflow orchestrations, and dashboard backends in alignment with team architectural patterns and coding standards. • Write, test, and deploy production code that is maintainable, robust, secure, efficient, well-tested, and operable in a production environment. • Implement data quality checks, validation routines, and monitoring mechanisms that meet defined service-level agreements for compliance-critical datasets. • Extend existing services to support new compliance requirements, jurisdictions, and integration points based on design documents and stakeholder needs. • Build components that handle sensitive regulatory data using appropriate encryption, access controls, and audit trails to ensure security and compliance. • Contribute to self-service analytics by enabling reporting tools, dashboards, and structured data products that allow compliance analysts to access key metrics and histories. • Maintain production systems with comprehensive monitoring, alarming, and logging to ensure reliability and timely issue detection. • Implement designs provided by engineering leads, proactively raising technical concerns and proposing alternative solutions when appropriate. • Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint ceremonies, collaborating with the engineering team to refine requirements and address implementation challenges. • Support on-call responsibilities as part of the team’s production support rotation, helping ensure the stability and availability of compliance-related systems. • Collaborate with internal compliance and operations stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions. • Work across data engineering and software development tasks based on sprint priorities, contributing wherever the team needs additional capacity. Essential Skills • At least 3 years of data engineering experience, including data modeling, pipeline development, and data warehouse design. • At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience building production services. • Strong SQL skills with experience working with large, complex datasets. • Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Java, Python, or TypeScript, with a demonstrated ability to write production-quality code. • Hands-on experience with AWS data services such as Glue, Redshift, and Athena. • Hands-on experience with AWS compute and integration services such as Lambda, API Gateway, and Step Functions. • Experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines and event-driven architectures. • Ability to implement secure systems that handle sensitive data using encryption, access controls, and audit logging. • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting for production systems. • Ability to follow established architectural patterns and coding standards while contributing to high-quality, maintainable code. • Experience participating in code reviews, sprint ceremonies, and collaborative engineering processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience building backend APIs and workflow orchestration services that integrate with downstream applications. • Experience in developing dashboards or backend services that support analytics and reporting use cases. • Familiarity with compliance, regulatory, or audit-driven data requirements across multiple jurisdictions. • Experience working in cross-functional teams with compliance specialists, operations staff, and other internal stakeholders. • Comfort working in agile development environments and adapting to changing sprint priorities. • Strong communication skills to clarify requirements, surface implementation challenges, and collaborate effectively with engineering leads and peers. Work Environment You will join a team that builds and operates compliance tooling for a global service compliance organization, supporting operations in a growing number of countries. The environment emphasizes collaboration, with close partnership between engineers, compliance specialists, and operations staff. You will participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning and technical discussions, and you will work within established architectural patterns and continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines. The role involves maintaining production systems with comprehensive monitoring, alarming, and logging, and participating in an on-call rotation to support live services. The technology stack centers on AWS services, including data tools such as Glue, Redshift, and Athena, and compute and integration services such as Lambda, API Gateway, and Step Functions, as well as backend services built in languages like Java, Python, or TypeScript. The position is based in a modern office environment in Redmond, with a professional dress code appropriate for a technology and compliance-focused organization.
