Role description
Position Title: Data Engineer III Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid) Position Status: 12 Months Contract (potential extension or conversion) Clearance Requirements: U.S. Citizenship required and must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust Clearance Pay Rate: $85–$95/hour Position Description: We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer III to join a high-impact, technology-driven environment supporting critical financial and data platforms. In this role, you will design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and architectures that enable advanced analytics, reporting, and business intelligence. You will collaborate closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, and Engineering teams to ensure data solutions are secure, reliable, and aligned with evolving business needs. This is an intermediate-level role ideal for a data professional who enjoys solving complex data challenges, improving system performance, and contributing to enterprise-scale data initiatives in a collaborative, agile setting. Key Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and repeatable data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to support analytics and reporting needs • Build and enhance data architecture aligned with enterprise data strategy and business intelligence initiatives • Design logical data models and implement optimized physical database structures • Develop and maintain operational data stores, data marts, and data warehouse solutions • Ensure data quality, integrity, availability, and security across data platforms • Support real-time and batch data processing workflows to meet business requirements • Optimize data pipelines by improving performance, reducing complexity, and enhancing maintainability • Partner with Data Scientists and data consumers as a trusted advisor to identify data issues and guide resolution • Conduct design and code reviews related to databases, tables, and data warehouse architecture • Document data flows, data access controls, data quality standards, and system dependencies • Build and maintain reusable query libraries for recurring data and reporting requests • Support CI/CD pipelines and Agile development processes Required Skills / Education: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) • 1+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering or related roles • Intermediate experience with data warehouse architecture, data modeling, and data processing pipelines • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT frameworks and best practices • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL, or similar) • Working knowledge of big data tools and modern data platforms • Experience with cloud-based data environments and services • Familiarity with CI/CD tools, pipelines, and Agile/Scrum methodologies • Understanding of data security, governance, and privacy standards • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • High attention to detail and commitment to data quality About Seneca Resources At Seneca Resources, we are more than just a staffing and consulting firm—we are a trusted career partner.
