You will lead a small team of Data Engineers, driving the development of modern data platforms and ensuring data is transformed into meaningful insights for business stakeholders. The Role
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering scalable data solutions, supporting analytics initiatives, and driving continuous improvement across data processes and platforms.
Working closely with analysts, architects, data scientists, and infrastructure teams, you will design and implement data pipelines, develop ETL processes, and ensure high-quality, reliable data is available to support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, test, and maintain data products and data pipelines from multiple source systems.
• Develop and enhance ETL processes to integrate data across cloud and on-premise environments.
• Create, maintain, and improve data models to support reporting and analytical requirements.
• Conduct data profiling and source system analysis, providing insights into data quality and usability.
• Support the full development lifecycle from requirements gathering through testing and deployment.
• Work with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Monitor and improve data quality through collaboration with analytics and business teams.
• Ensure solutions comply with data privacy, governance, and information security standards.
• Implement changes to existing data processes following established change management procedures.
• Collaborate with data engineering and wider technical communities to drive best practice and innovation.
• Provide line management, mentorship, and technical leadership to a small team of Data Engineers.
• Assist in resolving complex technical challenges and removing delivery blockers.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Strong experience delivering data engineering, analytics, or reporting solutions.
• Advanced T-SQL development skills.
• Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, particularly Azure technologies such as Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Experience with data integration, transformation, and analytics tooling.
• Knowledge of data modelling, database design, and working with complex datasets.
• Experience gathering and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience leading projects or managing technical teams.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or VBA.
Desirable Skills
• Knowledge of modern data engineering patterns and best practices.
• Experience working with large-scale government, public sector, or regulated datasets.
• Understanding of data science platforms and analytical tooling.
