Role description
Data Engineer – Azure, SQL, Databricks SDS yet to be determined - could be inside or outside Flexible day rate - 3-6 months Location: Hybrid (London-based) Type: Contract Industry: Consultancy We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join a fast-paced consultancy delivering data-driven solutions across a range of industries. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in client-facing environments and enjoys working on varied, impactful projects. Key Responsibilities β€’ Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and SQL-based solutions. β€’ Develop and optimise ETL/ELT workflows to support analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases. β€’ Work closely with clients to understand data requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions. β€’ Implement best practices for data modelling, data quality, and performance tuning across cloud-based platforms. β€’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to deliver end-to-end data solutions. β€’ Ensure data security, compliance, and governance standards are met across all projects. Required Skills β€’ Strong experience with Azure data services (Data Factory, Synapse, Blob Storage, etc.). β€’ Proficiency in SQL for data manipulation, transformation, and performance optimisation. β€’ Hands-on experience with Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, notebooks). β€’ Solid understanding of data architecture principles and cloud-native design. β€’ Experience working in consultancy or client-facing roles is highly desirable. β€’ Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control tools (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps). Desirable β€’ Exposure to Python or Scala for data engineering tasks. β€’ Knowledge of Power BI or other visualisation tools. β€’ Experience with data governance frameworks and metadata management.
