Data Engineer (Data Modelling / Data Mapping) Fully Remote 6 Month Contract - Inside IR35 Must be eligible for BPSS and SC Clearance We’re supporting a leading organisation within the defence sector who are looking to appoint a Senior Data Engineer with strong expertise in data modelling and data mapping. This is a key role within a large-scale programme, focused on delivering robust data integration and migration solutions across complex systems and platforms. The Role You’ll play a critical role in designing and implementing scalable, reliable data mapping solutions. Working closely with technical and business stakeholders, you’ll ensure data is accurately transformed, aligned, and governed across multiple environments. Key Responsibilities β€’ Analyse source and target data structures including databases, XML, JSON, CSV, and EDI β€’ Define and document data mappings, transformation logic, and integration rules β€’ Collaborate with data architects, business analysts, and domain experts to ensure alignment β€’ Support data migration and integration activities across multiple systems β€’ Validate mapping outputs and troubleshoot discrepancies in transformed data β€’ Ensure compliance with data quality, security, and governance standards β€’ Maintain documentation and metadata to support traceability β€’ Contribute to best practices and continuous improvement within the data team Key Requirements β€’ Strong hands-on experience in data modelling across conceptual and logical layers β€’ Proven experience in data mapping, transformation, or integration roles β€’ (e.g. Data Engineer, Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst) β€’ Experience working with structured and semi-structured data formats (XML, JSON, CSV, EDI, XLSX) β€’ Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams β€’ Experience with IBM Maximo Asset Management β€’ Experience with ETL or integration tools (e.g. DataStage, Palantir) Nice to Have β€’ Familiarity with data mapping documentation approaches (Excel-based mapping, BPMN, UML) β€’ Experience with XML tooling, XSLT, or DataStage Designer β€’ Exposure to large-scale transformation or migration programmes
