Role description
FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Data Engineer to work for our client within the Insurance sector. This is initially a 3-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.
Our client is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to play a key role in a high-profile broker data remediation programme. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising data models and transformation pipelines to create a clean, governed, and analytics-ready broker data domain. You will work closely with data modelling, platform, and business teams to resolve long-standing data quality and consistency challenges across multiple systems.
Responsibilities
β’ Build robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks (SQL, Python, Delta Lake) to implement data remediation logic
β’ Develop complex SQL transformations including deduplication, hierarchical roll-ups, hash key generation, and SCD Type 2 modelling
β’ Design and implement scalable data models (star, snowflake, and hierarchical structures) aligned to enterprise standards
β’ Engineer automated processes to improve data quality, standardisation, and reconciliation across multiple source systems
β’ Collaborate with data governance teams to embed data quality rules, lineage, and metadata into pipelines
β’ Translate logical data models into performant physical models for downstream consumption
β’ Work closely with cross-functional teams and SMEs to refine business rules and define data structures
β’ Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to design workshops and model reviews
About You
Requirements
β’ 5 years experience in data engineering within complex enterprise environments
β’ Advanced SQL expertise (window functions, complex joins, CTEs, deduplication, large-scale optimisation)
β’ Hands-on experience with Databricks and Delta Lake (including optimisation, incremental processing, and schema evolution)
β’ Proficiency in Python/PySpark for building scalable data pipelines and implementing transformation logic
β’ Strong data modelling experience (star schema, snowflake, dimensional modelling, master data, SCD handling)
β’ Experience working with large, complex datasets and resolving data quality issues across multiple systems
β’ Experience with data remediation, migration, or master data management programmes
β’ Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
