Role description
Our client, an American retailer that owns and operates 4 brands that are well known, is looking for someone to join their team as a Data Engineer – Supply Chain Data & AI. This role is onsite in San Francisco, CA. This is a W2 contract with benefits In this role, you'll design and deliver scalable, cloud-native data products that power analytics and AI across sourcing, transportation, warehouse management, and distribution operations. You'll partner with product managers, architects, and business stakeholders to build enterprise data solutions that drive smarter business decisions. What You Will Be Doing • Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and data products on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). • Develop enterprise data solutions using BigQuery, Dataproc, SQL, and dbt. • Create robust data models and ETL/ELT pipelines to support analytics and reporting. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions. • Lead technical design discussions, perform code reviews, and mentor engineers. • Improve platform performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency. • Implement best practices for testing, monitoring, CI/CD, and production support. • Contribute to engineering standards, reusable frameworks, and Agile delivery. Required Skills & Experience • 8+ years of Data Engineering experience, including technical leadership on enterprise projects. • Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP). • Expertise in BigQuery, Dataproc, SQL, and dbt. • Deep understanding of ETL/ELT development, cloud-native data platforms, and data modeling. • Experience with Git, CI/CD, and modern engineering best practices. • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Skills & Experience • Apache Airflow, Kafka, PySpark, and Python. • Experience with data governance, metadata management, and data quality. • Background in retail, supply chain, transportation, logistics, warehouse management systems (WMS), or distribution center operations.
