Role description
Data Engineer – Contract-to-Hire Location: Sacramento, CA (Hybrid – 3 days/week onsite) Duration: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire We are seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that power analytics and reporting across the organization. This role will collaborate with BI engineers, business data leads, and stakeholders to ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility while driving performance and innovation. What You’ll Do • Build and optimize scalable ETL pipelines for data ingestion from multiple sources (databases, APIs, files). • Manage and maintain databases, data warehouses, and data lakes with a focus on performance tuning and security. • Design and implement data models that reflect business processes and support analytics. • Develop data quality checks, validation procedures, and resolve data issues. • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, testing, and deployments (e.g., Jenkins, DevOps). • Evaluate and implement modern data tools, technologies, and frameworks. • Collaborate in Agile ceremonies, support business requirements, and provide technical expertise. What We’re Looking For • Hands-on experience with Azure (preferred); Azure Fabric is a plus. • Strong SQL skills, with experience in Oracle, SQL Server, and NoSQL databases. • Proficiency with Python and PySpark for data processing. • Experience with data pipeline optimization, performance tuning, and DevOps practices. • Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance best practices. • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical work into clear solutions. • Strong communication skills—able to convey ideas through documentation, diagrams, and design patterns. • Bachelor’s degree preferred (High school diploma or GED required).
