Role: Apache Flink Engineer
📍 Location: London, UK (Hybrid – 2 Days Onsite)
💼 Job Type: Contract (5 Months – Extendable)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Apache Flink Engineer to design, develop, and operationalise near real-time stream-processing solutions on AWS. The role will focus on building scalable data streaming pipelines supporting personalisation and recommender systems, while ensuring production readiness and knowledge transfer to internal engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement stateful stream-processing applications using Apache Flink (Java)
• Build and integrate streaming pipelines with Kafka / AWS MSK, S3, and MongoDB Atlas
• Ensure production-grade reliability including fault tolerance, checkpointing, and performance tuning
• Implement observability solutions (metrics, logging, dashboards, alerting)
• Support CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code deployments on AWS
• Collaborate with internal teams and provide mentoring, documentation, and best practices guidance
Essential Skills
• Strong hands-on Apache Flink production experience (event-time processing, windows, state management)
• Experience with real-time streaming architectures on AWS
• Expertise in Kafka / AWS MSK integration
• Strong programming skills in Java and Python
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and software engineering best practices
Desirable Skills
• Experience with Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink
• Exposure to EKS / ECS
• Experience with MongoDB / MongoDB Atlas
• Background in recommender systems or personalisation platforms
