The Opportunity
Our clientβs Business Intelligence & Data Management department is undergoing a strategic platform modernization and we're looking for a Senior BI/Data Engineer to help lead the charge. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of data engineering and business intelligence, supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization as we migrate from a legacy IBM stack to a modern cloud-native ecosystem.
You'll bring deep expertise in ETL/ELT design and data modeling, while rolling up your sleeves to architect scalable solutions in Snowflake, DBT, Python, and Power BI. You'll work closely with business stakeholders, mentor developers, and play a lead role in shaping how data flows through our organization.
What You'll Do
Build & Engineer
β’ Design and develop reliable, reusable, automated ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, DBT, and SQL
β’ Architect scalable table structures and data models (star/snowflake schemas, source-to-target maps, FQM) on Snowflake
β’ Build data quality checks, reconciliation procedures, and automated audit/balancing controls
β’ Design reporting applications ensuring underlying data sources support business requirements
Lead & Collaborate
β’ Gather, document, and translate complex business requirements into data warehouse design artifacts
β’ Lead application and technical architecture analysis, design, and implementation sessions
β’ Proactively conduct data investigations and support business partners with complex ad-hoc analysis
β’ Partner with data management and database specialists to troubleshoot and resolve issues
β’ Mentor junior developers in BI solution design and development best practices
Govern & Support
β’ Provide production support including technical assistance to end-users and IT staff
β’ Enforce metadata management and data quality standards through quality management reviews
β’ Understand and troubleshoot configuration dependencies across the data warehouse and BI toolsets
β’ Identify scope changes that could impact budget or delivery timelines and implement contingency plans
β’ Proactively build and maintain relationships with business process owners across the organization
What You'll Bring
Required
β’ 5+ years of hands-on ETL/ELT design and implementation experience (DataStage, Python, DBT, SQL)
β’ Proven Snowflake experience β pipeline design, optimization, performance tuning, and security features
β’ Demonstrated ability to build star/snowflake schema data models, Facts Qualifier Matrix (FQM), and source-to-target maps
β’ Power BI dashboard development and data quality scorecard / lineage documentation
β’ GitHub version control experience including collaborative development and code review workflows
β’ VS Code proficiency as a primary development environment, including debugging workflows
β’ Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and agile team environments
β’ Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to distill technical concepts for business audiences
β’ Proven track record architecting small, medium, and enterprise-scale data solutions
Preferred
β’ 3+ years of formal business requirements gathering experience
β’ IBM Cognos experience (reporting authoring and/or administration)
β’ Experience leading platform migration projects from legacy to modern data stacks
