Role description
Codeworks is an IT Services firm headquartered in SE Wisconsin, known for our strong commitment to quality and for our direct client relationships. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer with extensive experience in database development, cloud computing, and data engineering. The ideal candidate will be responsible for modernizing and maintaining the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS)—a crucial application supporting communicable disease surveillance, registries, and case management. This individual will ensure data integrity, system security, and compliance with industry standards while working collaboratively with stakeholders to enhance system functionality. This hybrid position requires candidates to be local to Mid-Michigan and available to work onsite two days per week in Lansing, MI. Relocation candidates will not be considered. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and implementation of scalable solutions using AWS services. Develop and maintain ETL processes and data pipelines. Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code using Python and/or Scala. Implement and manage Elasticsearch for efficient data retrieval and analysis. Utilize data warehousing, visualization tools, and data integrity strategies. Execute the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering and technical documentation. Design logical and physical database models and develop database objects such as stored procedures and functions. Use source control tools like GIT for version management. Contribute to agile development methodologies and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Support CI/CD pipeline creation using Azure DevOps. Assist in maintaining and enhancing Electronic Health Records (EHR) HL7 solutions. Qualifications 10+ years of experience developing complex database systems. 8+ years of experience with Databricks. 8+ years of experience using Elasticsearch and Kibana. 8+ years of experience with Python and/or Scala. 8+ years of experience with Oracle. 5+ years of experience with ETL processes and developing data pipelines. 5+ years of experience with AWS. 5+ years of experience with data warehousing, data visualization tools, and data integrity. 5+ years of experience using CMM/CMMI Level 3 methods and practices. 5+ years of experience implementing agile development processes, including test-driven development.
