Purpose of Job
The Data Governance Analyst role will be instrumental in the delivery of appropriate Data Governance surrounding Important Business Services (IBS) within Banking International (BI) and Capital Markets (CM). The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Business Services provided by the Bank as well as the many facets of Data pertaining to data management, data quality, data analytics, and data visualisation.
As the concepts of Data Governance are relatively new to the organisation, the role also requires an ability to educate and convince stakeholders at all levels on the essential nature of this role.
The candidate must be willing to challenge the status quo in an empathic manner, while helping the wider team to have an ethos of openness and transparency that will help us nurture real business innovation.
Background
The EMEA Data Office sits within the Operations, Planning and Data Department, covering all EMEA entities (including Securities and Banking subsidiaries) and all datasets. This team is responsible for defining and implementing the EMEA Data Strategy and building out its data management capabilities.
As part of this work, the EMEA Data Office has established a framework which encompasses cultural, behavioural, procedural, and system transformation to deliver the new strategy. This initially focuses on good governance by improved Data Architecture, Data Management and Data Quality, but as we evolve, will focus more on how we can use Data to drive new ways of working and improved business outcomes.
We have been formed to really drive data-led transformation through the bank, and it is a great opportunity to join us at the very start of this exciting journey.
Facts/ Scale
The EMEA Data Office has grown quickly to have over fifty members (permanent employees, contractors, and consultants) in less than 3 years, and is expected to grow further over the next 2-3 years.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
β’ Solid knowledge and expertise in the use of data governance, data quality, metadata, profiling, analysis, and data management tools.
β’ Drive the planning of BAU activities for the implementation of Data Governance methodologies across the IBSβs within the organisation.
β’ Support the implementation of the data governance strategy and policy
β’ Drives the data definition, governance and lineage aspects 'end to end' for each Use Case assigned
β’ Responsible for monitoring changes to business data requirements and ensuring that change and release management activities are executed for the data domains
β’ Contributes to the firm's objective of meeting industry regulatory expectations with respect to the data governance program as well as establishing processes that generate accurate, complete, timely and reliable data
β’ Work with teams across the Division on the development and implementation of data standards and adoption requirements for EMEA Data
β’ Collaborates with business, compliance, technology, and other groups to ensure that data related business requirements are clearly defined and communicated as part of initiative prioritisation and planning
β’ Support the investigation of Data Quality Issues, development of remediation plans and recommendations to fix at source
β’ Ability to establish consistent contact with all teams to provide updates, stay on track and report risks and issues timely with proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
β’ Knowledge of critical Business Services and/or Products provided by the Bank.
β’ Knowledge of Operational Resilience framework, requirements and processes.
β’ Working knowledge and understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata, profiling, analysis, and data management tools.
β’ Analytically minded with experience in problem solving and being able to communicate workable solutions
β’ Understanding of data governance practices.
β’ Ability to think in an enterprise-wide manner, rather than a siloed or business unit focused fashion
β’ Analytically minded with the enthusiasm to problem solve and be able to implement and deliver solutions.
β’ Confident stakeholder engagement skills to communicate and achieve buy-in from stakeholders across EMEA
β’ An understanding of Physical, Logical, and Business data Models
β’ Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and MS Project.
β’ Proven ability to be a team player, while retaining the ability to work independently with little supervision.
β’ Confident manner and strong presentation skills
β’ Ability to work independently and see challenges through to resolution
β’ Relevant industry experience, preferably in a quantitative discipline
β’ Exposure to Collibra and other data governance tools
Desirable:
β’ Knowledge of Data Quality practices and Controls implementation
β’ Knowledge of data related regulatory requirements
β’ Knowledge of emerging trends and issues within the Data Management landscape
β’ Experience working in regulated frameworks, ideally financial services
β’ Experience with SharePoint
Challenges
β’ Data Management/ Governance is at early stages of maturity within the organisation therefore extensive project and communication skills are required
