Role description
Data & Governance Specialist – must have UK Central Gov experience
We’re looking for an experienced Data & Governance Specialist to join a major central government data transition programme as it enters its final delivery phase.
🕒 Start: Early January 2026
⏳ Duration: 4 months
💷 Rate: Up to £500/day
📜 Outside IR35
🌍 Location: Mostly remote, with occasional travel to London (1–2 days a week at first, then once every 4 weeks).
What you’ll be doing
• Supporting the development, review, assurance and approval of governance artefacts including DSAs, DPAs, DPIAs and related documentation.
• Ensuring controller/processor responsibilities are legally accurate and maintained during transition.
• Managing IG risks, mitigation plans and supporting audits and assurance checks.
• Facilitating workshops, stakeholder discussions and alignment across multiple central government teams.
• Mapping datasets, purposes and retention schedules to ensure compliance with data protection and IG policies.
• Providing clear reporting and updates to the Data & IG Lead on governance and transition progress.
What you’ll bring
• Previous experience in data governance, information governance or data management roles.
• Strong understanding of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Caldicott Principles and central government IG frameworks.
• Experience managing DSAs, DPIAs, and controller/processor documentation in public sector or health-related environments.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across Legal, Technical, Cyber, Programme, and Operational teams.
• Strong document control, assurance tracking and reporting capabilities.
Desirable: Experience supporting large-scale data migrations or working with multi-controller government data platforms.
