Role description
Data Lead – Operational Data Transformation (Discovery, Architecture & Governance)
Outside IR35 | £600/day | Hybrid – Hemel Hempstead (2 days/week) | 6‑month initial contract | ASAP start
We’re supporting a large operational transformation initiative and are looking for a hands-on Data Lead to take ownership of a critical data workstream. The programme is modernising how operational data is captured, structured and governed, and you’ll play a key role in shaping the data foundations that underpin future digital services.
This role requires someone who can get close to the business, understand how data is produced today across multiple sites, and define a structured, governed, future‑ready model that supports analytics, reporting and new product development.
You’ll work alongside technical and operational teams, acting as the link between day‑to‑day data capture and enterprise‑level data standards.
Responsibilities
• Map how operational data is captured and stored across systems and teams
• Build a clear inventory of datasets, formats and integrations
• Define structured data models, validation rules and quality standards
• Shape the data architecture that will support future digital and analytical use cases
• Establish ownership, governance and compliance practices
• Lead the data workstream, managing risks, deliverables and stakeholder engagement
Ideal Background
• Experience leading data workstreams in complex change programmes
• Strong data discovery, profiling and modelling experience
• Confident in regulated or operational environments
• Able to work directly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
• Comfortable balancing hands‑on work with data architecture and governance
Helpful experience (not essential)
• Exposure to environments where physical/operational processes generate data
• Experience supporting digital product or analytics initiatives
• Familiarity with enterprise ERP/CRM integration patterns
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please get in touch or apply directly.
