Role description
Data Modeler II – Job Summary The Data Modeler II plays a key role in supporting public-sector technology initiatives by designing and enhancing data models used across enterprise systems. This position focuses on analyzing business requirements, assessing existing systems, and creating normalized database solutions that support modernization and data transformation efforts. The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. Key Responsibilities • Analyze business operations and system requirements to define database needs • Develop and maintain fact and dimension tables, data models, and data architectures • Create ERDs and other diagrams to communicate complex data structures • Design data structures for transactional and business intelligence environments • Implement database changes to meet standards for performance, consistency, and security • Prepare technical documentation, including process flows and interface specifications • Support user acceptance testing and project activities across SaaS, COTS, and data warehouse initiatives • Query, collect, and analyze data to support normalized solutions • Promote code through environments and use version control tools • Provide status updates and collaborate with project managers and stakeholders Required Qualifications • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle • Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, and Mainframe IMS • Familiarity with SSIS, Informatica, and data governance standards (including handling PII) • Knowledge of CDC, GitHub, and database modeling tools (e.g., DBSchema) • Ability to work autonomously and exercise sound judgment This position supports multiple related projects and requires producing consistent, high-quality deliverables in alignment with established processes and methodologies. CANDIDATE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS • 5+ years creating data architecture artifacts (data dictionaries, ERDs, pipeline designs, etc.) • 5+ years documenting data architecture, processes, and workflows • 5+ years collaborating with business/technical stakeholders to translate data requirements into solutions • 5+ years data modeling and analysis experience across OLTP, OLAP, ETL, and data warehouse environments • 5+ years designing data warehouse architecture using tools such as DBSchema, SqlDBM, or ER/Studio • 5+ years full-cycle data warehouse experience (requirements, design, quality, source-target mapping, ETL/integration, star/snowflake modeling, facts & dimensions) • 3+ years relational data modeling (3NF), including experience with Snowflake architecture and system-level design • 3+ years dimensional modeling experience, including practical knowledge of facts, dimensions, and star-schema design • 3+ years system analysis experience with ER and dimensional modeling across analytics/data design • 3+ years experience with BI/DW solutions (ETL, OLAP, data marts), including Informatica, Power BI, and leading cross-functional technical teams • 3+ years building and optimizing data pipelines for business intelligence and analytics Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship For standard positions: • Must pass a satisfactory standard criminal background check upon hire.
