Role description
About the Company
What if your models didn’t just analyze markets—but actively shaped trading decisions? Join a team where data, algorithms, and commercial strategy converge. Within the Trading Analytics & Insights (TA&I) organization, you’ll work alongside quantitative analysts, data strategists, and engineers to deliver models and insights that directly impact trading outcomes across North America’s energy markets.
About the Role
You’ll partner closely with the Gas & Power Trading Americas Fundamental Modeling & Innovation Team, tackling high-impact, real-world challenges in a fast-paced, data-rich environment.
This role is ideal for someone who blends strong coding fundamentals with practical application. You may be early in your career—but you’ve already gone beyond theory and applied your skills in real-world scenarios (internships, projects, or professional experience).
If you:
• Enjoy solving algorithmic challenges and optimizing solutions (especially on platforms like LeetCode)
• Can clearly walk through your thought process while solving coding problems
• Are comfortable tackling Python-based technical assessments in a virtual setting
• Have hands-on exposure to data modeling and working with real datasets.
…you’ll stand out.
Strong coders with 1–3 years of experience (or equivalent hands-on project/internship experience) are encouraged to apply. We value applied skills and problem-solving ability over years alone.
This is a W2 only role. No CTC or Self incorporation. The interview will be onsite in Houston, TX
Responsibilities
• Develop and enhance data models and machine learning solutions to support trading strategies
• Build scalable pipelines and analytical frameworks using Python and modern data science tools
• Work with large, complex datasets to uncover market insights and trading opportunities
• Collaborate with traders and business stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable models
• Clearly articulate your approach to solving problems—both in code and in conversation
• Continuously improve modeling techniques and explore innovative analytical methodologies
Qualifications
• STEM degree or quantitative background
Required Skills
• Strong Python coding skills (pandas, numpy, sklearn, etc.)
• Experience with data modeling, data analysis, and statistical techniques
• Ability to write clean, efficient code and explain your logic step-by-step
• Hands-on experience working with real-world datasets (academic, internship, or professional)
• Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
Preferred Skills
• Exposure to energy markets (gas, power, LNG, oil, low carbon)
• Understanding of supply/demand fundamentals and trading dynamics
• Experience collaborating with business stakeholders or trading teams
We’re not just looking for someone who can code—we’re looking for someone who can think, model, and communicate solutions to real-world problems.
Equal Opportunity Statement
If you can pass a Python coding challenge, explain your logic clearly, and apply your skills to meaningful business problems, you’ll thrive here.
