Role description
Hi, I hope you are doing well, This is Peter Hodg from Nava Software Solutions. Please see the job description below and let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to speaking with you or confirming with you by email Title : Data Modeler Location : Houston, TX(Remote) need Locals Duration : 12+ Months Visa Status : USC/GC Tax Term : W2 Client: ROR- Selene Job Description ; We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Modeler to join our data organization on a long-term contract engagement supporting a mortgage and financial services client. In this role, you will be a key contributor to the design, development, and governance of enterprise data models within a modern cloud data platform. You will work closely with data engineers, analytics engineers, and business stakeholders to translate complex mortgage business requirements into scalable, well-structured data assets across our Medallion Architecture β€” spanning loan origination, servicing, secondary markets, and risk reporting. DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES β€’ Design and implement dimensional data models in Snowflake, including star and snowflake schemas optimized for analytical workloads and Power BI consumption β€” covering mortgage domains such as loan origination, pipeline management, servicing, payoffs, delinquency, and investor reporting. β€’ Own the modeling lifecycle across the Medallion layers β€” from ingesting raw Bronze data (LOS feeds, servicing systems, third-party data providers) through cleansing and conforming into Silver, to building curated, business-ready Gold dimensional models. β€’ Develop and maintain Databricks notebooks and pipelines that transform and move mortgage data between Medallion layers, collaborating with data engineers on pipeline architecture and data quality rules. β€’ Build and manage semantic/data models in Power BI, ensuring consistent metric definitions (e.g., pull-through rate, lock volume, funded loan count, delinquency rates), proper relationships, and report-ready structures for business consumers. β€’ Partner with data engineers and platform teams to define ingestion patterns, partitioning strategies, and performance optimization approaches within Snowflake and Databricks. β€’ Conduct data profiling and analysis on incoming Bronze-layer sources β€” including LOS exports, servicing system extracts, MISMO-formatted data, and rate/lock feeds β€” to understand structure, quality, and lineage before modeling decisions are made. β€’ Document data models, entity relationships, and business rules in a centralized catalog or wiki, maintaining clear and up-to-date data dictionaries that align with mortgage industry terminology. β€’ Participate in design reviews and architecture discussions, offering input on modeling standards, naming conventions, and best practices across the data platform. β€’ Collaborate with business analysts, compliance teams, and stakeholders to gather and validate requirements, ensuring Gold-layer models accurately reflect regulatory reporting needs (HMDA, MISMO, ULAD) and operational analytics. β€’ Troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues across modeling layers, working upstream with engineers and downstream with analysts and BI consumers. β€’ Support data governance initiatives, including lineage tracking, PII/PCI identification, and classification tagging within the data platform β€” with awareness of mortgage data sensitivity and regulatory obligations. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS β€’ 6+ years of experience in data modeling, data warehousing, or a closely related data engineering/analytics engineering role. β€’ Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake β€” including schema design, performance tuning, clustering keys, and working with large-scale analytical datasets. β€’ Demonstrated expertise with Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and experience building models across all three layers. β€’ Proficiency in dimensional modeling concepts β€” star schemas, snowflake schemas, slowly changing dimensions (SCD Types 1–3), fact and dimension table design. β€’ Hands-on experience with Databricks, including working with Delta Lake, notebooks, and collaborative data pipeline workflows. β€’ Experience developing and maintaining Power BI data models and semantic layers, including DAX, relationships, and dataset optimization. β€’ Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write complex transformations, window functions, and performance-optimized queries. β€’ Experience working with mortgage or financial services data β€” including familiarity with loan origination systems (LOS), servicing platforms, or similar source systems. β€’ Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment with minimal supervision. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS β€’ Familiarity with MISMO data standards, HMDA reporting, or ULAD/ULDD schemas. β€’ Experience with dbt (data build tool) for model transformation and documentation. β€’ Familiarity with data catalog tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra, Unity Catalog). β€’ Exposure to CI/CD practices as applied to data pipelines and model deployments. β€’ Background working in agile/scrum data teams.
