Role description
Job title: Fundamental Modeling Analyst Duration: 6 Months Contract (Possibility of Extension) Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid) Payrate: $50-55 per hour on w2, without benefits Overview: The Trading Data Analytics discipline within our Trading & Shipping (T&S) organization is home to Quantitative Analysts, Data Strategists, and Core Strategists. United by expertise in data, numerical algorithms, and modern technologies, the team delivers models, tradable insights, and agile analytical tools that drive commercial performance across global trading portfolios. As a Fundamental Modeling Analyst, you will work alongside the Gas & Power Trading Americas Fundamental Modelling & Innovation Team. You’ll collaborate closely with analysts and strategists across North America and across multiple commodity lines to design, develop, and deploy scalable analytical solutions to business‑critical challenges in a fast‑paced, data‑rich trading environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in quantitative problem‑solving, enjoys building models that directly support trading decisions, and wants to innovate within real‑time energy markets. Essential Experience & Skills: • 3–5 years of hands‑on experience developing machine learning models and performing regression analysis. • Advanced Python programming skills, with strong proficiency in core data science libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn). • Demonstrated experience manipulating, transforming, and analyzing large, complex datasets. • Proven track record of partnering with traders or commercial stakeholders to deliver actionable, commercially focused models. • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot complex analytical challenges. • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to evaluate alternative approaches. • Independent and creative thinking with a continuous improvement mindset and a passion for analytical innovation. • Ability and desire to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic trading environment. Desirable Experience & Skills: • Knowledge of U.S. or North American energy markets, such as low‑carbon, oil, gas, LNG, or power. • Understanding of supply and demand fundamentals, and familiarity with how physical and related financial instruments are traded.
