Role description
Data Science Expert — AI Content Specialist
About The Role
What if your expertise in machine learning, statistics, and data engineering could directly shape how the next generation of AI thinks and reasons? We're looking for experienced data scientists to work with Alignerr — partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to train and improve cutting-edge AI models.
You'll stress-test advanced language models on the hardest problems in data science, expose their reasoning failures, and help build AI that truly understands the field. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for working professionals and researchers who want to do meaningful, high-impact work on their own schedule.
• Organization: Alignerr
• Type: Hourly Contract
• Location: Remote
• Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
• Design Advanced Challenges — Craft complex, domain-specific data science problems spanning hyperparameter optimization, Bayesian inference, cross-validation strategies, dimensionality reduction, and more — designed to expose the limits of AI reasoning.
• Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Produce rigorous, step-by-step solutions including Python/R scripts, SQL queries, and mathematical derivations that serve as authoritative reference answers for model training.
• Audit AI-Generated Code — Critically evaluate AI outputs using libraries like Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow, assessing code for correctness, efficiency, and best practices.
• Refine AI Reasoning — Identify and document logical failures in AI responses — such as data leakage, overfitting, or improper handling of imbalanced datasets — and provide structured feedback that improves how models think through problems.
Who You Are
• Advanced Degree — Master's (pursuing or completed) or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a quantitative field with a strong emphasis on data analysis.
• Deep Domain Knowledge — Solid grounding in core areas such as supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop), or natural language processing.
• Strong Analytical Writing — Ability to communicate complex algorithmic and statistical concepts clearly and precisely in written form.
• Meticulous Attention to Detail — High precision when reviewing code syntax, mathematical notation, and the validity of statistical conclusions.
• No prior AI or annotation experience required — your data science expertise is what matters.
Nice to Have
• Prior experience with data annotation, data quality, or model evaluation workflows
• Familiarity with production-level data science practices such as MLOps or CI/CD pipelines for models
Why Join Us
• Work directly with industry-leading AI models at the frontier of machine learning research
• Fully remote and asynchronous — work when and where it suits you
• Flexible hours with meaningful, intellectually stimulating task-based work
• High contractor autonomy with global reach and the potential for ongoing project renewals
• Contribute to AI development that has a tangible impact on how technology reasons about data science
