Role description
Title: Senior Software Engineer/ Release Engineer
Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid β 3 Days a week)
Duration: 6+ Months of Contract
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Software Engineer contractor to join our team for a critical code refactoring project. This role will focus on facilitating the migration of our tech stack from R to Python, rebuilding key analytical tools to accelerate adoption and simplify the productionization process.
What you'll do in this role:
β’ Refactor and simplify the productionization pipeline for our analytical tools to improve efficiency, reduce complexity, and drive broader adoption within the organization.
β’ Analyze and understand the existing R codebase and its functionality to ensure a faithful and improved migration to Python.
β’ Translate complex logic and algorithms from R into clean, efficient, and well-documented Python code.
β’ Design, develop, and implement new, fully integrated end-to-end data and modeling pipelines using Python and modern system design best practices.
β’ Write comprehensive unit, integration, and regression tests to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and performance of the new Python codebase.
β’ Engage in rigorous code reviews with peers to maintain high standards of code quality, readability, and maintainability.
β’ Create and maintain clear technical documentation for the new systems and processes to ensure a smooth handover to the full-time team.
β’ Identify, diagnose, and resolve bugs and performance bottlenecks in the new Python applications and data pipelines.
Qualifications:
β’ Bachelorβs Degree in Software Engineering or Quantitative field (Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Math, Stats, Data Science)
β’ Strong proficiency in Python is required
β’ Familiarity with R and SQL is required
β’ At least 4 years of professional programming experience in Python
β’ Experience designing and building data-intensive solutions.
β’ Experience with Kubernetes/KFP, distributed compute/Dask Operator, and Web API development is a plus.
