Data Scientist (San Francisco, CA)
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Data Scientist to join a fast-paced, agile team focused on applying the latest advancements in artificial intelligence to solve complex, real-world problems. San Francisco, CA β Flexible arrangement based on candidate availability; onsite work is preferred.
Engagement: 1099 Contract-to-Hire
Important Notice: Successful candidates will be required to complete an in-person onboarding process. All expenses related to travel and accommodation for onboarding will be fully covered by our client.
Responsibilities
β’ Design, build, and maintain complex AI-driven software systems.
β’ Develop and optimize machine learning and NLP pipelines, with a focus on scalability and production readiness.
β’ Collaborate with team members to define requirements, perform software design, conduct peer reviews, and document solutions.
β’ Implement best practices including version control, unit testing, code reviews, and agile development cycles.
β’ Design and analyze experiments to validate model performance and enhance AI workflows.
Required Skills & Qualifications
β’ Strong Python skills, particularly for machine learning and NLP projects
β’ Good SQL skills for querying and analyzing data
β’ Basic C# skills β ability to read and understand existing .NET / .NET Core code and make minor adjustments if needed
β’ Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) or modern AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Cursor, Copilot)
β’ Understanding of API and Microservices concepts
β’ Ability to work independently and thrive in a small, agile team
Preferred Experience
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
β’ 5+ years of experience in software engineering, AI development, or ML engineering
β’ Cloud experience (Azure or AWS) is a plus
β’ Familiarity with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn
β’ Experience with ETL processes and end-to-end ML pipeline development
β’ Exposure to big data tools like Databricks, Snowflake, Spark, or Solr is beneficial
