Role description
Freelance Data Scientist - Marketing Attribution
London
Day Rate: £500 Outside IR35
This is an opportunity to lead a high-impact attribution project from the ground up, shaping how a well-known consumer-facing business understands its marketing performance. You will be brought in as a specialist, given the freedom to experiment, and trusted to deliver pragmatic, value-focused insight rather than a theoretical perfect model.
The Company
They are a customer-focused organisation with a strong digital presence and a commitment to data-driven decision making. The team is investing in understanding complex customer journeys and the true impact of marketing activity across multiple channels. You will join a collaborative environment that values experimentation, quick learning, and actionable outcomes. The culture is suited to someone who is hands-on, curious, and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in a hybrid setup, with 2 to 3 days a week in their London office.
The Role and Deliverables
• Lead the design and build of a multi-touch attribution model to understand the impact of marketing activity across the customer journey.
• Develop proof-of-concept models using imperfect and incomplete data, focusing on generating meaningful insight and business value.
• Explore and "hack together" approaches that make the best possible use of existing data, identifying creative solutions to data limitations.
• Work independently to manage the end-to-end analytics process, from scoping requirements through to delivering clear, actionable findings.
• Communicate complex attribution concepts and model outputs to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and compelling way.
• Collaborate with marketing and analytics teams to embed learnings into decision making and inform future test-and-learn activity.
Your Skills & Experience
• Strong experience in building and applying multi-touch attribution models in a commercial setting.
• Background in R&D, innovation, start-up environments, or consulting, where you have delivered analytics projects with a high degree of autonomy.
• Experience working on customer journey or B2C purchase path analysis as part of broader data science or marketing science work.
• Comfortable working with imperfect, messy, or incomplete datasets, and able to find pragmatic ways to make them usable.
• Able to operate as a "full stack" analyst or data scientist within the analytics workflow, without relying on data engineering or data architecture support.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical work into clear stories, recommendations, and trade-offs for stakeholders.
How to Apply
If you are a data scientist or attribution specialist who enjoys building practical solutions from imperfect data and wants to drive real marketing impact, please apply with your CV to be considered.
