Role description
The Fountain Group is a national staffing firm and we are currently seeking a Machine Learning / AI Engineer (IT) for a prominent client of ours. This position is Fully Remote. Details for the position are as follows: Machine Learning / AI Engineer (Bioinformatics) Pay: $57-$61/hour Duration: 6 months to start (extensions based on performance and business need) Location: Fully Remote The Opportunity We are seeking a highly skilled Machine Learning / AI Engineer to support the design, development, and deployment of advanced AI solutions across enterprise systems. This role emphasizes hands-on deep learning and ML engineering, with a strong focus on Python-based frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow), model integration, and production deployment. While exposure to biological or scientific data is a plus, this position is not a pure bioinformatics role. Candidates must demonstrate applied machine learning experience beyond academic or theoretical work. Key Responsibilities β€’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy AI/ML models aligned with business and technical requirements. β€’ Internalize and integrate external AI programs into internal systems, ensuring scalability, performance, and compatibility. β€’ Develop, train, optimize, and maintain deep learning models using Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and related frameworks. β€’ Research, implement, and adapt Graph Neural Network (GNN) models, including applications involving knowledge graphs and network-based data. β€’ Apply literature- and data-driven network integration techniques to infer and model complex relationships. β€’ Support troubleshooting, optimization, and iteration of deployed AI solutions to improve performance and reliability. β€’ Contribute to best practices for ML model deployment, versioning, and lifecycle management. Required Qualifications β€’ PhD in Computational Science, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related field (recent and upcoming graduates welcome). β€’ Strong Python programming skills with hands-on experience using PyTorch and/or TensorFlow. β€’ Demonstrated understanding of deep learning architectures with applied experience deploying ML/AI solutions(academic-only experience is not sufficient on its own). β€’ Familiarity with Graph Neural Networks, transformers, and/or sequential data modeling. β€’ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills. β€’ Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a cross-functional team. Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills β€’ Experience applying state-of-the-art AI methods to complex or large-scale datasets. β€’ Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and ML deployment pipelines. β€’ Familiarity with additional AI frameworks or models such as BERT, LLaMA, or similar. β€’ Experience working with biological or multi-omics data is a plus, but not required.
