Role description
• Embedded Data Scientist
• Rate – flexible
• Duration – 12 months (likely extension, dependent on performance in role)
• Location – Waterside (min 2 days per week)
• Travel – expected regular travel to Paddington office (sometimes Madrid and Barcelona)
A major aviation group is expanding its central transformation data function and seeking exceptional Data Scientists with deep Operational Research and Optimisation expertise.
This is a high‑impact role for individuals who combine elite analytical capability, rigorous mathematical foundations, and consultative communication strength. You will co‑develop data products designed to scale across several operating companies, driving adoption and group‑wide value.
What You’ll Do
• Develop predictive, prescriptive, and optimisation models across operational domains, with solutions that are reusable and scalable across the wider group.
• Build and refine models using techniques such as:
• forecasting
• linear and nonlinear optimisation
• simulation
• large‑scale model scaling
• Conduct exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and deep‑dive analytical investigations.
• Partner with Data Engineers to ensure high‑quality data pipelines and deployment readiness.
• Translate advanced analytical insights into compelling, business‑relevant recommendations for stakeholders.
• Continuously enhance models based on operational performance and cross‑airline feedback.
• Contribute to reusable AI/optimisation components for enterprise‑scale deployment.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Outstanding mathematical and analytical background — degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Operational Research, Engineering, Physics, or similar.
• Strong experience in Operational Research, optimisation, forecasting, and advanced modelling.
• High proficiency in Python and modern machine learning/AI frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Proven ability to take models from design to production, ensuring scalability, robustness, and business integration.
• Exceptional communication skills — able to challenge, influence, and guide non‑technical stakeholders.
• Strong consultative mindset and the ability to bring stakeholders with you.
