Role description
Our client is one of the most well-known and prestigious news and media organizations in the world. They embody their mission of distributing accurate, unbiased, and credible news, reaching a majority of the world's population daily across B2C and B2B channels.
They are looking for a Data Scientist to help improve how their large scale content library specifically photo and video assets is searched, retrieved, ranked, and surfaced across internal and external platforms. This role focuses on optimizing search engines and applying machine learning to massive visual datasets.
Job Title: Data Scientist
Job Type: 6 - Month Contract (strong possibility of extension) Location: Hybrid (3 days on-site in NYC, Tuesday through Thursday)
Required Technology And Skills
• Strong experience with Python, PyTorch, and deploying applied machine learning models in production
• Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch
• Background building search pipelines using semantic search, vector search, embeddings, and hybrid retrieval
• Experience with query understanding, query expansion, relevance tuning, and ranking algorithms
• Knowledge of NLP techniques, including entity recognition, semantic similarity, and transformer models
• Experience applying ML or computer vision to image, photo, video, or visual datasets at scale
• Ability to work with rapidly changing content datasets in high-volume environments
Additional Skills
• Cloud experience with AWS and SageMaker
• Background in news, media, publishing, or visual asset management
• Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a STEM-related field
Compensation: $65 - $78/hr (Based on experience)
