• Purpose of the Team: The purpose of this team is to acts as “customer zero” for MS employees, testing internal tools and improving employee experience, especially for campus navigation and facilities
• Key projects: This is outlined in the typical day in the role section.
Candidate Requirements
• Disqualifiers: Candidates who lack lack Python / SQL / quantitative method experience will be a red flag.
• Best vs. Average: Someone with a background in quantitative psychology or behavioral science methods and research would be ideal. Prefer candidates who have a Master's degree or PHD.
Hard Skills Assessments
• Expected Dates that Hard Skills Assessments will be scheduled: asap.
• Hard Skills Assessment Process: The assessment process will include three 30‑minute HSAs.
• Required Candidate Preparation: NA
Summary
The Data Scientist 3 (Quantitative Research) is responsible for designing, analyzing, and interpreting large‑scale quantitative studies to inform product, design, and business decisions. This role focuses on survey research, statistical analysis, and experimental methods, partnering closely with research, design, and product teams to generate actionable insights from quantitative data.
Key Responsibilities
Design, execute, and analyze large‑scale surveys, experiments, and observational studies
Apply inferential statistical methods (e.g., regression, hypothesis testing, multivariate analysis) to answer research questions
Develop sampling strategies, weighting schemes, and data quality checks to ensure statistical rigor
Analyze complex datasets and clearly communicate findings to cross‑functional stakeholders
Translate quantitative insights into practical recommendations for product, design, and strategy
Collaborate with researchers, designers, and product teams to shape research questions and measurement approaches
Document methodologies, assumptions, and limitations to support reproducibility and interpretation
Support ongoing research programs with standardized metrics, dashboards, and analytical frameworks where appropriate
Qualifications
Master's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, psychology, economics, data science, sociology, or a related discipline
5-7years of experience in quantitative analysis or research, preferably in a product, UX, or applied research context
Strong foundation in statistical inference and experimental or quasi‑experimental methods
Experience working with survey data, including questionnaire design, sampling, and weighting
Proficiency in at least one statistical or analytical programming language (e.g., R, Python)
Ability to explain complex analyses clearly to non‑technical audiences
Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem‑solving skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross‑functional teams
Nice to Have
Experience in UX, product, or behavioral research
Familiarity with A/B testing or causal inference approaches
Experience translating quantitative findings into design or product decisions
Must‑Have Skills: 5+ years each
• Strong foundation in inferential statistics and applied quantitative methods
