Role description
Data Scientist
Rate: £500 - £530 per day
Duration: 6 Months
Location: Fully Remote, UK
This is a high-impact, mission-critical role assisting UK Border Force Officers to identify suspicious cargo using advanced Computer Vision and Machine Learning models. The project uses image matching to identify cargo for further inspection, aiming to increase the speed of checks, reduce revenue loss, and boost border throughput.
We are seeking a skilled Computer Vision Data Scientist to lead the integration of these ML models into the ScanApp application and establish the necessary in-house infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
You will lead the end-to-end process of model refinement, infrastructure setup, and application integration within a high-security environment.
• Model Development & Optimization: Develop, train, and optimize Computer Vision and Deep Learning models using Python and popular libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Application Integration: Integrate ML models into the ScanApp application, ensuring compatibility and scalability for operational border use.
• Infrastructure Setup: Establish and maintain efficient, reliable, and secure in-house ML infrastructure, adapting trial code or devising new solutions based on trial learnings.
• Model Enhancement: Utilize knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) to enhance model outputs and improve the user experience for Border Force officers.
• Validation & Iteration: Conduct thorough model testing, validation, and iteration to ensure accuracy, reliability, and performance.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate ScanApp requirements into robust ML solutions, requiring strong Stakeholder Management Skills.
What You Need to Succeed
• Clearance: Must hold Active SC Security Clearance (Essential requirement).
• Technical Expertise: Strong background in Python, Computer Vision, and Deep Learning.
• Tooling: Proven experience with popular ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Infrastructure: Experience setting up and maintaining robust ML infrastructure.
• Modern Techniques: Practical knowledge of LLMs and their application in enhancing model outputs.
• Contract Note: This contract is Inside IR35 (Umbrella only).
