Role description
Role: Data Steward
Location: Lansing, MI (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 Months (Renewable Annually)
Payrate-43$ to 46$/hr on W2
Position Overview
Data Steward will work closely with the Data Architect and business stakeholders to ensure data quality, governance, documentation, reporting, and successful execution of data management activities. This role requires a strong understanding of data management principles, SQL, data analysis, and business requirements gathering.
Key Responsibilities
• Gather, document, and manage business requirements.
• Support data governance and data quality initiatives.
• Analyze complex data relationships and provide meaningful insights and reporting.
• Profile, query, validate, and troubleshoot data across relational databases.
• Develop and maintain business, technical, and project documentation.
• Create functional specifications, test cases, and testing documentation.
• Support data validation, user acceptance testing (UAT), and data quality reviews.
• Generate reports and perform data analysis to support business objectives.
• Facilitate meetings, capture meeting minutes, and track action items.
• Collaborate with business users, data architects, technical teams, and vendors.
• Ensure adherence to data privacy, security, and governance standards.
• Manage multiple priorities and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience in Data Management, Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Stewardship, or a related data-focused role.
• Experience gathering and managing business requirements.
• Strong understanding of database design concepts and relational databases.
• Proficiency in SQL, including data querying, profiling, analysis, and validation.
• Ability to analyze complex data relationships and transform data into meaningful reports and insights.
• Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data management best practices.
• Understanding of data privacy and data protection principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with data modeling concepts.
• Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and/or Teradata.
• Experience using reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SAS, or Excel Power Query.
• Meeting facilitation and stakeholder management experience.
• Project coordination experience.
• Vendor relationship management experience.
