The Sage Group seeks an expert at Data Visualization/Production Design for our client, one of the hottest AI companies in the world! Their mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. βWe want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build AI systems.β
The Creative Studio is the in-house creative team responsible for the brand expression across the platforms. They care about craft, making things by hand and using their own AI when it makes sense. The team is growing, and we're looking for people who do excellent work to join us. The stakes are real, and there's room to shape what all this becomes.
About the role
Our clientβs Creative Studio is looking for a Data Visualization Designer to join us on a contract basis. In this role, you'll turn complex information β research findings, product benchmarks, safety data, market insights β into visuals that are clear, accurate, and genuinely beautiful. The subject matter is often technical and abstract; your job is to make it legible without flattening it. Not dumbing it down but opening it up. This is a hybrid role: part data visualization specialist, part versatile production designer. One day you'll be building a chart system for a research report; the next you'll be producing presentation decks, social assets, or one-pagers within our brand system. You should be equally comfortable obsessing over axis labels and colorblind-safe palettes as you are turning around clean, on-brand templated collateral at pace. You'll work within an established design language and a high bar for craft, partnering closely with brand designers, writers, researchers, and marketers. This is an ideal role for a designer who thinks rigorously about how information is encoded visually, sweats the details of typography and consistency, and is genuinely curious about AI and the ideas we are trying to communicate.
Responsibilities
β’ Design charts, graphs, diagrams, and infographics that translate complex datasets and technical concepts into clear, accurate, and compelling visuals
β’ Apply and help extend our data visualization system β chart types, color palettes, labeling conventions, accessibility standards β so data work is consistent across every surface
β’ Partner with researchers, product marketers, comms, and policy teams to interrogate the data, understand the story, and choose the right visual form for it
β’ Maintain accuracy and integrity in every visualization β checking the numbers, choosing honest scales, and resisting visuals that mislead
β’ Build reusable templates and components in Figma that help the broader team produce data informed work faster. Experience in using AI to help build these templates is a plus.
β’ Manage multiple concurrent projects, flagging tradeoffs and keeping stakeholders informed along the way
You may be a good fit if you
β’ Have 5+ years of experience in visual design, with a portfolio that demonstrates both data visualization and general graphic design work
β’ Are proficient in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign)
β’ Can translate complex or messy datasets into charts and infographics that are accurate, clear, and visually refined
β’ Have a solid grasp of typography, color theory, layout, and hierarchy β with a sharp eye for consistency and brand alignment
β’ Have worked within established brand systems and design guidelines, and know how to extend them without breaking them
β’ Are comfortable owning midlevel production work β presentations, social assets, one-pagers, templated collateral β and take pride in executing it well
β’ Communicate clearly and collaborate easily with non-design stakeholders, including researchers and subject-matter experts
β’ Are highly organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Strong candidates may also have
β’ Familiarity with data visualization systems and accessibility standards (WCAG contrast, colorblind safe palettes)
β’ Experience visualizing technical, scientific, or research subject matter
β’ Working comfort with spreadsheets β enough to clean, check, and structure data before you design with it
β’ Interest in AI and curiosity about our mission to build safe and beneficial AI systems
