Role description
About the Role We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to support our ongoing migration and management of enterprise database systems. This position involves working with Sybase ASE 15.7 and Microsoft SQL Server environments, with a long-term goal of transitioning fully to SQL Server. The role will require strong troubleshooting skills, Unix/Linux experience, and the ability to work effectively in a formal change control environment. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with mandatory onsite work Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Lansing, MI. Candidates must be available for in-person interviews and able to commute or relocate at their own expense. Key Responsibilities Administer, maintain, and support Sybase ASE 15.7 and Microsoft SQL Server databases. Assist with the ongoing migration from Sybase to SQL Server. Develop and maintain Unix/Linux CRON jobs and command-line scripts. Support database performance tuning, backup, recovery, and maintenance. Participate in change control processes and adhere to organizational IT standards. Provide occasional on-call support on a rotational basis and assist with scheduled maintenance or data fixes. Collaborate with senior DBAs and developers on implementation and optimization projects. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 4–5 years of experience working with Sybase and SQL Server databases. Proficiency with Unix/Solaris/Linux environments. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred: Experience with database migration from Sybase to SQL Server. Familiarity with Azure SQL Server environments. Experience working in formal change control or enterprise environments. Exposure to clustering and disaster recovery configurations. Work Schedule Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday). Hybrid schedule: onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required with prior approval.
