Database Administrator - Tier 2 role needs a technical foundation and will be responsible for managing complex database environments, ensuring data integrity and availability, optimizing performance, and implementing robust security and compliance measures. This position requires knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL Server. Database Administrator - Tier 2 role demonstrates the ability to pay keen attention to detail, possess a strong customer service orientation and have the ability to work as part of a team.
Technical Knowledge:
Maintain secure and scalable SQL Server database systems in on-premises and cloud environments.
Availability: Maintain and troubleshoot high availability/disaster recovery solutions such as failover-cluster instances and availability groups.
Performance: The administrator should have experience in DBMS performance optimization and be able to identify and resolve performance issues.
Security: The administrator should have an understanding of DBMS security and be able to implement and maintain administrative and technical controls.
Collaboration: The administrator should be able to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other administrators, engineers, and stakeholders across multiple time zones.
Communication: The administrator must have strong communication skills and be able to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
Problem Solving: The administrator should have the ability to analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions to meet the needs of the organization in the cloud and on-premises environments.
Continuous Learning: The rapidly changing nature of technology requires the administrator to have a continuous learning mindset and be comfortable with adapting to new technologies and best practices in cloud and on-premise environments.
Preferred skills: experience with DBMS supporting technologies such as Active Directory\EntraID, DNS, GPO, PKI, Kerberos, and automation. Experience with MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle is a plus.
In addition to these skills, the administrator should also have experience with IT service management practices and an understanding of DBMS architecture and best practices. Familiarity with government and industry security standards, such as STIGs, is also desirable for a database administrator working in the Department of Defense.
