Role description
Position Overview
The Database Analyst (Advanced) supports data-driven decision making by analyzing complex healthcare data, with a strong focus on Medicaid claims, eligibility, provider, and encounter data. This role develops reporting and analytics solutions, supports program and policy evaluation, and ensures compliance with applicable data governance and privacy regulations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
At a minimum, the Database Analyst will:
1. Analyze Healthcare Data
β’ Analyze Medicaid claims, eligibility, provider, and encounter data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
1. Support Program & Policy Decisions
β’ Provide data insights to support program evaluation, policy analysis, and operational decision-making.
1. Develop Dashboards & Reports
β’ Design and maintain dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
β’ Present findings in a clear, actionable format tailored to stakeholders.
1. Collaborate with Stakeholders
β’ Work with internal teams, external partners, and leadership to define data needs and deliver appropriate solutions.
β’ Present findings to stakeholders in a clear, actionable format.
1. Ensure Compliance & Documentation
β’ Ensure all work aligns with applicable regulations, including HIPAA and state data governance standards.
β’ Document methodologies, data sources, and assumptions to support transparency and reproducibility.
1. Support Special Projects & Reporting
β’ Support special projects, audits, and federal reporting initiatives as needed.
1. Create Technical Documentation
β’ Assist in developing technical documentation for recurring reports, data pipelines, and reporting logic to ensure consistency and knowledge transfer.
1. Develop Reporting Extracts
β’ Develop and validate data extracts for federal and state reporting requirements, including CMS submissions and performance metrics.
1. Apply Advanced Analytics
β’ Apply machine learning methods where appropriate to improve forecasting and risk stratification models.
1. Other Duties as Assigned
β’ Perform other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Minimum Qualifications
β’ Education
β’ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
β’ Experience
β’ Five (5) or more years of experience in data analysis, preferably in healthcare or Medicaid.
β’ Technical Skills
β’ Strong proficiency in SQL and/or SAS.
β’ Working knowledge of Python for data manipulation, analysis, and automation tasks.
β’ At least three (3) years of experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms for building dashboards and reports.
β’ Domain Knowledge
β’ Strong understanding of healthcare data, especially Medicaid or claims-based data.
β’ Soft Skills
β’ Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and analysis to non-technical audiences in a clear and concise manner.
Preferred Qualifications
β’ Experience working with state or federal healthcare programs.
β’ Knowledge of Medicaid managed care, long-term services and supports (LTSS), or waiver programs.
β’ Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).
β’ Experience with machine learning or advanced statistical modeling.
