Role description
We're looking for a Database Engineer to own the health, security, and availability of our database environments. This is a hands-on technical role focused on building, deploying, and tuning database solutions across cloud platforms. You'll work across a wide range of relational and non-relational systems and use strong SQL skills to write efficient queries and support architecture that scales.
The emphasis here is on the core engineering and administrative side of databases, including performance, reliability, security, and high availability, rather than broader data infrastructure or analytics work. You'll document architecture, build schemas, and keep production data operations running smoothly across both cloud and on-premises systems.
What You'll Do
• Build, configure, and maintain database environments, primarily in the cloud
• Monitor performance and resolve bottlenecks before they affect users
• Manage access control, encryption at rest and in transit, and overall data security
• Design and test backup and recovery processes that protect data integrity
• Plan and run upgrades and migrations
• Support end users and resolve database issues, including opening and managing vendor support cases (cloud providers and others)
• Automate routine maintenance wherever it makes sense
• Produce clear documentation for database configurations and design decisions
• Partner with engineering, cloud, and infrastructure teams to make sure database design meets performance and scalability goals
• Keep up with new tools and approaches in cloud database technology, including IaC and CI/CD practices for database deployments
How We Work
• Daily check-ins to review progress
• Daily time tracking on active projects
• Transparent, responsive communication with teammates
• A collaborative team culture built on mutual respect and clear working styles
What You Bring
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Several years of experience administering large-scale database systems
• Working knowledge of major database platforms such as MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL
• Hands-on experience with cloud database services and non-relational stores
• Proficiency with backup and recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning tools
• Solid grasp of database security concepts and best practices
• Cloud certifications a plus
Applications from the following states are not accepted
• California
• Washington
• Massachusetts
• Washington
• Oregon
• Connecticut
