Database Engineer

We’re hiring a Database Engineer (Contract) to join a UK-based organisation operating at the heart of the country’s internet infrastructure, as they begin a major modernisation of their database estate. You’ll be joining at an important stage of transformation, working closely with SRE, platform, and application teams to migrate from on-prem Oracle into AWS and GCP while building modern, automated database foundations. This is a hands-on, platform-focused role (PostgreSQL, Oracle, Terraform, CI/CD) with a strong emphasis on automation, scalability, resilience, and Database-as-Code — not traditional production-only DBA work. What you’ll do: • Lead Oracle → AWS/GCP migration work • Design and operate PostgreSQL and Oracle database platforms • Embed Infrastructure-as-Code into database provisioning and lifecycle management • Build self-service, on-demand database environments • Implement high availability, replication, backup and recovery strategies • Automate database scaling, patching, and provisioning • Support and upskill the existing team as standards evolve • Collaborate closely with SRE and engineering on performance and reliability About you: • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle in production environments • Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible, Liquibase, Flyway or similar • Background working in DevOps / CI/CD-driven environments • Experience delivering cloud migrations (AWS and/or GCP) • Comfortable designing HA/DR and resilient architectures • Confident communicator, able to guide and elevate existing teams UK-based and able to work 1 day per week onsite (London or Oxford) 📍 Contract: April start → End of year 💰 £550–600 per day 📩 Interested?
