Position Summary
As a Database Engineer Contractor, you will build and optimize database and data integration solutions that support data storage, retrieval, reporting, and analysis. The service you will provide will focus on migrating legacy SAP data into Azure, structuring datasets in Azure Synapse, and improving performance, data quality, and security. This role is suited for a contractor with hands-on experience in relational databases, extract, transform, load development, and Azure data engineering tools.
Work you'll do
The service you will provide the Deloitte project team as a Database Engineer Contractor will include:
β’ Build relational database structures and data ingestion workflows that support project requirements for storage, retrieval, reporting, and analysis.
β’ Ingest data from the clientβs legacy SAP platform into the Azure data lake using Azure Synapse and connected pipeline tools.
β’ Structure, transform, and model in-scope legacy analytics datasets in the target environment while preserving metadata, lineage, documented business rules, and data integrity.
β’ Optimize database and Azure Synapse performance to support query, scalability, retention, and validation requirements for defined use cases.
β’ Apply database security controls and perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks to confirm migrated data is complete, accurate, and consistent with source data.
Qualifications
Required:
β’ 2+ years of experience in data engineering, database engineering, or database development
β’ Experience building and supporting data pipelines in Azure Data Factory (ADF)
β’ Experience creating transformations and ingestion workflows in Azure Synapse Analytics, including Synapse Studio and dedicated SQL pools or serverless SQL pools
β’ Experience writing Structured Query Language (SQL) for data ingestion, transformation, validation, and troubleshooting
β’ Experience building relational data models, including star schemas and slowly changing dimension (SCD) patterns
β’ Experience with extract, transform, load (ETL) tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF), SAP Data Services, Theobald Xtract, or SAP Smart Data Integration (SDI)
β’ Experience working with SAP-sourced data, including fields, keys, or SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW) objects such as InfoCubes, DataStore Objects (DSOs), CompositeProviders, Open Hub, Operational Data Provisioning (ODP), or BW Queries
Preferred
β’ Experience ingesting SAP data into Azure data lake environments
β’ Experience validating migrated datasets through reconciliation and acceptance testing
β’ Experience supporting supply chain or operations data domains
β’ Experience applying security controls for sensitive datasets in Azure environments
β’ Experience using Python for data processing or automation
β’ Experience preparing data for machine learning workflows
The expected pay range for this contract assignment is $55 - $60 per hour.β― The exact pay rate will vary based on skills, experience, and location and will be determined by the third-party whose employees provide services to Deloitte.
