Database Engineer

Job Title: Sr. Database Engineer Location: Thousand Oaks, CA onsite 5 days The pay rate is $60/hr. On W2. Responsibilities: As a Senior Database Engineer , you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of client's critical database systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, business analysts, and operations, to ensure our data infrastructure is efficient, secure, and scalable. You will leverage your deep expertise in database technologies to optimize performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement best practices for data management within a mortgage lending environment. 1. Expertise in SQL Server 2022 Administration & Architecture ○ Deep knowledge of SQL Server installation, configuration, security hardening, and performance tuning for enterprise workloads. ○ Proven experience designing and implementing High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions, specifically SQL Server Always On Availability Groups. 1. Proficiency in PowerShell for SQL Server Automation ○ Demonstrated ability to write robust, idempotent PowerShell scripts to automate all aspects of SQL Server configuration, including setup, security principal management, and maintenance tasks. ○ Hands-on experience with the dbatools PowerShell module is highly preferred. 1. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Database Hosts ○ Define , design , develop and manage the underlying AWS infrastructure for SQL Server using Terraform ○ This includes authoring Terraform configurations for EC2 instances, performance-tuned EBS volumes, Security Groups, and IAM Roles required for the database hosts. 1. Practical Knowledge of AWS for SQL Server Workloads ○ Strong understanding of core AWS services relevant to running SQL Server, including EC2 (instance types, placement groups), EBS (gp3/io2), S3 (for backups), and networking fundamentals. ○ Experience with cost optimization strategies for database workloads on AWS. 1. Systematic Multi-Environment Deployment Strategy ○ Experience building and managing repeatable deployment processes across multiple environments (e.g., Dev, QA, Prod). ○ Must be adept at using parameterization techniques in both Terraform (.tfvars) and PowerShell to handle environment-specific configurations and secrets. Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field. Master's degree preferred. • Hands-on experience in SQL Server administration and architecture. • Proven expertise with SQL Server 2022, including installation, configuration, HA/DR, and performance tuning. • Strong proficiency in PowerShell scripting for SQL Server automation; experience with dbatools highly preferred. • Experience designing and managing AWS infrastructure for database workloads using Terraform. • Deep understanding of AWS services related to SQL Server deployments and cost optimization. • Demonstrated ability to manage multi-environment deployments with parameterization and automation. • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams. • Strong problem-solving skills and commitment to operational excellence
