Database Engineer

Source One is a consulting services company and we’re currently looking for the following individual to work as a consultant to an autonomous vehicle company in Foster City, CA. • We are unable to work with third party companies for this role. Title: Database Engineer (Contract) Work Environment: On-site (5 days/week) Pay Rate: $82.96/hour (W-2) \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Role Overview: Database Engineer to design, build, optimize, and operate scalable, secure, and highly available database platforms supporting business-critical applications and analytics. This role will partner closely with application engineering, infrastructure, and data teams to improve database architecture, optimize performance, automate operational workflows, and ensure reliability across development and production environments. The ideal candidate has deep database expertise, strong AWS experience, infrastructure-as-code knowledge, and a passion for building reliable, high-performance data systems. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Key Responsibilities: • Design, implement, and maintain scalable database solutions aligned with application and business requirements. • Install, configure, upgrade, and support database platforms and related infrastructure. • Optimize database performance through Query tuning, Index optimization, Schema improvements, Configuration tuning • Collaborate with application developers and data engineers on Data modeling, Schema design, SQL optimization, Database scalability • Implement database security controls, access management, and data protection strategies. • Troubleshoot database incidents across development, test, and production environments. • Develop and maintain Database architecture documentation, Operational runbooks, Support procedures • Perform capacity planning and recommend infrastructure improvements. • Manage AWS database services including Amazon RDS, Aurora, Redshift, Related AWS database technologies • Automate database operations and deployments using: Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), Cloud-native tooling, CI/CD workflows • Stay current with database technologies, architectures, and industry best practices. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Required Qualifications: • Proven experience as a: Database Engineer, Database Administrator (DBA), Database Platform Engineer • Strong experience designing and supporting production database environments. • Deep knowledge of relational database technologies, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Amazon Redshift • Advanced SQL skills with experience in: Query optimization, Performance tuning, Indexing strategies, Schema optimization • Strong understanding of: Data modeling, Normalization principles, Database architecture, High availability concepts • Hands-on experience with: Backup and restore procedures, Disaster recovery strategies, Database monitoring, Incident troubleshooting • Experience implementing database security best practices: Access controls, Authentication/authorization, Data protection • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills. • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced engineering environment. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Preferred Qualifications: • AWS infrastructure experience, especially: RDS, Aurora, Redshift • AWS networking fundamentals. • Infrastructure-as-Code experience: Terraform Cloud, Terraform workflows, CloudFormation • Automation experience using: Python, Shell scripting • Database CI/CD experience: Flyway, Bamboo, Similar database deployment tools
