Role description
Job Description
You will maintain, debug, and modernize legacy Unix shell scripts, database triggers, and stored procedures while leveraging AI tools to accelerate analysis, refactoring, and documentation. Your hands-on expertise with Unix/Linux scripting and SQL/PL/SQL/T-SQL is primary; AI is used to work faster and document better. You will collaborate across engineering, data, and product teams to preserve stability, reduce risk, and manage changes clearly and predictably.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
Proven hands-on experience with legacy Unix/Linux shell scripting (e.g., Bash, Ksh, sh, cron, awk, sed) and database programming constructs (stored procedures, triggers, functions) across one or more major RDBMS (Oracle/PL/SQL, SQL Server/T-SQL, PostgreSQL).
Strong debugging and reverse-engineering skills to trace data flows, uncover business rules, and resolve defects in shell and database logic.
Comfortable leveraging LLMs and code analysis tools to understand unfamiliar code, draft documentation, and suggest refactors; basic prompt-writing for code tasks; no deep AI expertise required.
Able to critically evaluate and safely integrate AI-generated suggestions, validating logic, performance, and side effects before adoption.
Experience planning and executing AI-assisted code migration from scripts and stored procedures to modern services or SQL-centric patterns, with phased cutovers and rollback strategies.
Proficiency with Git and code review, and experience introducing CI/CD and automated tests around previously unmanaged legacy assets.
Solid SQL fundamentals and performance awareness, including transactions, concurrency, error handling, and basic tuning when modifying or replacing database logic.
