Role description
Job Description:
Client is seeking a contract Databricks "Data Governance Architect" to architect, engineer it/roll it out, and teach the team along the way.
β’ Must have extensive experience with BOTH Databricks & Microsoft Purview (non-negotiable)
β’ Seeking a data governance Databricks resource β This position will be VERY focused on governance (catalog, scans, etc.)
β’ Must be a hands on resource for this position
β’ Client is not seeking a data Engineer for this position. They already have a team dedicated to that work (Unity catalog)
β’ 6+ months contract - Potential FTE conversion if it's the right fit (only need to be open to converting)
β’ 100% remote position
Addtional Notes:
β’ Plans to leverage Databricks (ETL tool for net new development) and Purview (Microsoft product) β Client has TONS of legacy systems
β’ Working with Gartner on the framework and operational model
β’ MSHS had a pilot for a Data Governance committee that they are looking to revitalize/ramp up
β’ Much of the legacy data wonβt be in Databricks for a long time
β’ This resource will report to Director, Enterprise Analytics & Stewardship
β’ Director is not an SME in the Databricks/technology side - Needs someone to come in and help get them up to speed
β’ Director and the team are also working directly with Databricks
β’ working for years to roll out data strategy/data governance, but would lose steam for one reason or another
Databricks-Purview Internal Notes:
Databricks and Microsoft Purview are distinct but highly complementary governance solutions. Databricksβ native Unity Catalog manages operational governance, data access, and lineage directly within the Databricks environment. Microsoft Purview provides an enterprise-wide, multi-cloud data catalog, compliance layer, and unified business glossary.
Most modern enterprises integrate both tools rather than treating them as competitors. Understanding the core capabilities and how to link them helps in successfully architecting your data stack
