Job Title: Datacenter Engineer
Location: New York, NY 10004
Job Type: Contract to Full-time
We are seeking a hands-on Datacenter Engineer to join a leading financial technology clientβs North America Operations team. This role combines datacenter operations, Linux systems administration, containerized compute, and networking. You will work closely with engineering, network, and security teams to ensure reliability and performance in a 24Γ7, market-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform racking, stacking, cabling, labeling, and maintenance of servers, storage, and network equipment.
Manage hardware upgrades, replacements, and inventory tracking.
Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS).
Manage virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM, or Proxmox).
Implement and maintain monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Dynatrace, etc.).
Troubleshoot networking issues (L1-L3), VLAN assignments, and firewall connectivity.
Automate hardware checks and provisioning using Bash or Python scripting.
Maintain documentation, SOPs, rack diagrams, and change logs.
Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Support security and compliance by applying patches and system hardening.
Requirements:
5+ years in data center operations and Linux systems administration.
Hands-on experience with server hardware assembly, cabling, and maintenance.
Strong Linux OS knowledge and system troubleshooting skills.
Familiarity with TCP/IP networking, VLANs, DNS, DHCP.
Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Observium, Dynatrace, Prometheus).
Proficiency in Bash or Python scripting.
Ability to lift/install rack-mounted equipment (up to ~30kg).
Comfortable working in controlled environments (raised floors, hot/cold aisles).
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Flexible schedule with rotating maintenance windows, on-call duty, and weekend shifts.
Travel: 1β2 trips per month to Equinix Secaucus (Saturdays).
Driverβs license required.
Preferred Skills:
Virtualization (VMware, KVM, Proxmox).
Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience with GIT workflows/pipelines.
Configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
Knowledge of ITIL processes and ticketing systems (JIRA).
French language skills (optional).
