Role description
OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Center Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, supporting, and optimising our data centre infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge network and system technologies within a fast-paced environment. The ideal applicant will possess extensive knowledge of computer networking, network security, system administration, and cloud platforms, with a focus on delivering reliable IT solutions. Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, VPNs, and MPLS networks to ensure seamless connectivity across data centres. Manage and support network security protocols such as firewalls (Cisco ASA), Cisco ISE, PKI, LDAP, SSO, SSL encryption, and IDS/IPS systems to safeguard organisational data. Configure and administer network devices including Cisco routers, Juniper devices, switches, load balancers, SAN storage solutions, and VMware vSphere environments. Monitor network performance using tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, and Splunk; perform troubleshooting to resolve issues related to TCP/IP protocols, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF EIGRP), DNS/DHCP services, and remote access software. Oversee system administration tasks across various operating systems such as Windows Server, Linux distributions (Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu), Solaris, macOS; automate processes using PowerShell, Bash scripting, Ansible. Implement high availability solutions and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in virtualised environments including VMware and Citrix platforms. Support cloud infrastructure deployment and management on platforms such as Azure and AWS; optimise network architecture for scalability and security. Conduct regular security assessments; apply patches and updates; manage encryption protocols; enforce best practices in network security management. Collaborate with development teams on DevOps initiatives involving automation tools like Ansible; facilitate network installation projects; support network monitoring via SolarWinds or PRTG. Qualifications Proven experience in network engineering or system administration within a data centre environment. Strong understanding of computer networking concepts including TCP/IP stack, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF EIGRP), IPsec VPNs, MPLS networks. Extensive knowledge of network security measures such as firewalls (Cisco ASA), VPNs (IPsec), SSL/TLS encryption standards. Hands-on experience with Cisco networking equipment (routers/switches), Juniper devices, SAN storage solutions and virtualisation platforms like VMware vSphere or Citrix. Proficiency in managing various operating systems including Windows Server (Active Directory), Linux distributions (Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS), Solaris; scripting skills in PowerShell or Bash are desirable. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS; experience with automation tools like Ansible is advantageous. Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex network issues quickly and efficiently. Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, CompTIA Network+, Security+ or equivalent are preferred but not essential.
