Title: DevOps Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Longmont, Colorado (onsite)
Duration: 6+ months
The Role:
• We are seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Contractor with expertise in designing, deploying, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure CI/CD systems that support both internal and external GitHub repositories and workflows.
• We are building a hybrid infrastructure that includes on-prem, self-hosted clusters orchestrated with container orchestration with GitHub workflows.
• This infrastructure will support a wide range of research projects within the organization.
• The successful candidate for this role will lead the design and implementation of this infrastructure, manage physical and virtual systems, and ensure high availability and performance of our CI/CD pipelines.
• This role requires a hands-on engineer with deep experience in DevOps, container orchestration, system administration, and network troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Architect, deploy, and maintain on-premise self-hosted GitHub Actions runners for container orchestration.
• Design and implement secure and scalable infrastructure for both internal-only and external-facing repositories and workflows.
• Manage physical systems including OS installation, hardware setup, and network configuration.
• Monitor and troubleshoot system performance, network issues, and CI/CD pipeline failures.
• Develop automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code to streamline deployment and maintenance.
• Collaborate with development teams to understand requirements and optimize workflows.
• Ensure compliance with security and operational best practices.
• Document infrastructure, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
Preferred Experience:
• Proven experience with GitHub Actions, self-hosted runners, and CI/CD pipeline design.
• Strong knowledge of container orchestration tools, preferably Nomad (experience with Kubernetes is also valuable).
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Go.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
• Deep understanding of Linux system administration and networking.
• Experience managing physical servers, including OS installation and hardware troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
• Ability to work across teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Experience in secure infrastructure design and implementation.
