Day Rate: £500–£600 (depending on experience)
Industry: Financial Services (FS) — Technology Integration / Migration of Two Companies
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on DevOps Engineer with a software development background to join our Technology Integration Programme, supporting the merger of two large financial services organisations. The successful candidate will play a key role in building and automating cloud infrastructure, improving deployment pipelines, and standardising engineering practices across both entities.
This role suits someone early-to-mid in their DevOps career who can roll up their sleeves, work closely with teams on the ground, and contribute to scalable infrastructure automation.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the design and build of AWS infrastructure using Terraform (IaC-first environment).
• Maintain and optimise CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions / Jenkins / GitLab or similar).
• Write Python tooling and automation scripts to assist with deployments and cloud operations.
• Collaborate with development and platform teams to standardise environments post-merger.
• Assist with migrating legacy services to AWS, ensuring security and compliance with FS regulations.
• Participate in platform monitoring, incident resolution, and performance optimisation.
• Document infrastructure, tooling, and operational procedures.
Required Skills & Experience
Must Have:
• 2–5 years' experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Software Development transitioning into DevOps.
• Strong AWS knowledge (EC2, IAM, VPC, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, etc.).
• Proven Terraform experience in production environments.
• Solid Python development skills, particularly for scripting and tooling.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, CircleCI).
• Understanding of networking, security groups, IAM, containerisation (Docker/ECS/Kubernetes is a bonus).
Nice to Have:
• Prior experience in Financial Services / Regulated environments.
• Exposure to platform migration / M&A / cloud consolidation projects.
• Knowledge of Secrets Management (AWS Secrets Manager, HashiCorp Vault).
• Familiarity with Monitoring / Observability stacks (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana).
Working Model
• 4 days onsite in London (mandatory for collaboration with engineering & security teams).
• 1 optional remote day per week.
• Contract inside IR35 via umbrella company.
• Initial 6–12 month contract, likely to extend due to multi-phase integration programme.
Ideal Candidate Profile
• A developer turned DevOps engineer, who enjoys automation, solving infrastructure challenges, and working within fast-paced delivery environments.
• Comfortable working across multiple teams and codebases during a large-scale post-acquisition integration.
• Proactive, collaborative, and eager to grow within a high-performing engineering culture.
