Role description
Job Description Type: Full-time W2 or 1099 Contract What We Need Devblock is looking for an experienced, hands-on Cloud/SRE/DevOps Engineer. This role will be deeply involved in standing up, maintaining, and optimizing secure, scalable environments on AWS and Azure—supporting the technical onboarding of new accounts and ensuring the smooth operation of cloud services in partnership with our DevOps Lead. You’ll work in a highly collaborative environment where infrastructure is treated as code, automation is default, and security and performance are top priorities. If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, owning technical challenges, and seeing your work directly impact customers in a growing DevOps Practice, we want to hear from you. Key Responsibilities • Collaborate with our engineering team and client leads to document, map, and improve infrastructure and pipelines. • Design, implement, and manage AWS and Azure infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM Templates, or Bicep. • Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar). • Set up and manage monitoring, logging, and alerting (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, New Relic, Azure Monitor). • Assist with hardening security and implementing compliance best practices across environments. • Automate operational processes wherever possible. • Collaborate with development teams to support application deployment and performance. • Participate in troubleshooting incidents and remediating root causes. • Contribute to documentation of environments, runbooks, and SOPs. • Communicate promptly with clients and internal team members when issues arise—even if additional time is needed for research or troubleshooting. • Context-switch effectively when handling competing priorities across multiple clients. • Maintain professionalism and calmness when addressing high-pressure or stressful situations. Required Qualifications • 5+ years of experience in a hands-on DevOps, Site Reliability Engineer, or Cloud Infrastructure role. • Deep familiarity with AWS services (EC2, VPC, IAM, ALB, RDS, S3, DocumentDb, Lambda, CloudWatch, Route53). • Strong experience with Azure services (VMs, VNET, Azure AD, Storage Accounts, Functions, AKS, App Gateway, Monitor). • Strong Infrastructure as Code skills (Terraform preferred; ARM Templates or Bicep a plus). • Proficiency with at least one CI/CD system (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, Azure DevOps). • Experience with Linux and/or Windows IIS administration and shell scripting. • Working knowledge of container technologies and orchestration (e.g., ECS, EKS, Fargate, AKS). • Experience with observability tools such as Datadog, New Relic, CloudWatch, or Azure Monitor. • Comfortable working collaboratively in Git-based workflows. • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills—able to clearly and concisely explain technical details and solution elements. • Experience supporting client-facing environments in a consulting or agency environment. • Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine desire to help others, proactively assess issues, and take ownership of solutions. • AWS or Azure certification (e.g., Solutions Architect Assoc, DevOps Engineer Expert). Preferred Skills • Familiarity with compliance standards (SOC2, HIPAA, etc.) and cloud security best practices. • Knowledge of serverless technologies and architectures (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Azure Functions, Logic Apps). What Makes a Great DevOps Engineer At Devblock At Devblock, great engineers aren’t just technically strong—they: • Communicate proactively and empathetically, ensuring clients and teammates feel heard and supported. • Adapt quickly to shifting priorities, balancing multiple client needs without losing focus on quality. • Thrive under pressure, approaching stressful or urgent situations with calm professionalism. • Take initiative, spotting potential problems before they escalate and implementing preventative solutions. • Balance precision and pragmatism, knowing when to dive deep into details and when to move quickly. • Contribute to culture, supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge, and building trust through accountability. Why Join Devblock? We’re a nimble, high-impact team that builds and supports systems for some of the world’s most recognized brands. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers who care about doing things the right way—from automation to security to uptime. You’ll be given the autonomy to own your work, while contributing to a culture of learning, accountability, and mutual respect.
