DevOps Engineer

Position Type: Contract Location: New York City (Hybrid) Salary Range: Starting at: $30/hour (USD) The Role We are looking for one Senior Database and DevOps Engineer with a primary focus on Database Administration (DBA). You will be the guardian of our most critical data assets, responsible for ensuring our database environments are performant, highly available, and secure. A secondary but crucial aspect of the role involves administering the underlying cloud infrastructure that supports these databases and our other corporate systems. This is a hands-on, technical role for someone who enjoys deep-diving into complex database issues while also maintaining a holistic view of the entire infrastructure stack. Key Responsibilities: 1. Primary: Database Administration (DBA) 1. Manage, and maintain our database related systems (e.g., MySQL, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Redis). 1. Implement and manage high availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies. 1. Plan and execute database patching, upgrades, and migrations. 1. Monitor database health and proactively report issues. 1. Secondary: DevOps Engineer 1. Administer our core infrastructure, including servers (Linux) and cloud platforms (AWS). 1. Manage internal infrastructure systems (e.g., Kubernetes, CI/CD System, Gitlab, API Gateway). 1. Harden system security, manage access controls, and ensure compliance with security best practices and regulations 1. Monitoring & Alerting: maintain comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure maximum uptime and rapid incident response. Requirements: Essential: ● Proven experience (3+ years) in a Database Administration (DBA) role. ● Profound mastery of AWS storage and database services, including deployment, configuration, and performance tuning for Aurora (PostgreSQL/MySQL), Redis, ElastiCache, kafka and DocumentDB. ● Strong expertise in Linux system administration. ● Hands-on experience with major cloud providers (e.g., AWS). ● Strong background in setting up and using monitoring and logging tools. ● Fluent in English and Mandarin (both written and spoken). Nice to Have: ● Familiarity with open-source data technologies such as Elasticsearch, Kafka, and their ecosystems (Kafka Connect, Logstash, Kibana). ● Experience with scripting for automation (Bash, Python, or Go). ● Familiarity with data privacy regulations. ● Experience in a 24/7 operational environment with on-call duties. ● Proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese is a strong plus.
