Consultant Title: Digital Skills Trainer
Program: Impacting Veterans Through Data
Primary Point of Contact: Head of Training

Location: Remote - Pacific Time Zone
Compensation and Summary: $22,000 for delivery of a nine hour virtual training program, including curriculum and materials adaptation and/or development, to be delivered to 12 cohorts of participants over a period of 12-16 months.

Data Elevates (DE) is a social enterprise building modern data systems and skills in underserved communities around the world. We work with social impact organizations, educational institutions, and individuals to strengthen capacity for data use and data-driven decision making. Our team works with governments and social impact partners in three primary areas: 1) community data skills training programs, 2) organizational development for data use, and 3) product development. Our work is cross-sectional, in that we support health, food systems, education, and other program areas through our focus on data-driven decision making, and we work on both international and US-based programs. We foster sustainable impact through improved use of data, and to foster people through a supportive, mutually-beneficial environment.
About the Impacting Veterans Through Data (IVTD) Program: The Impacting Veterans Through Data (IVTD) program is a virtual training initiative designed to equip veterans with fundamental skills in digital literacy (e.g., data analysis, visualization, and AI). Through instructor-led interactive workshops and hands-on learning, participants build core competencies in working with data, interpreting insights, and communicating findings effectively. The IVTD program expands Data Elevates experience doing digital skills training for veterans through the Veterans in Data initiative.
Consultant Role Summary: DE seeks a highly motivated Digital Skills Trainer to facilitate and deliver the IVTD training program. The consultant will facilitate virtual IVTD workshops focused on beginner digital literacy, analysis, and visualization; support participant engagement and progress monitoring, and may coordinate with DE staff as needed to align on program objectives. The consultant will be able to adapt Data Elevates existing digital skills training materials for the teaching of this program, and/or incorporate or develop their own training materials. The Digital Skills Trainer will handle a variety of activities, including: workshop presentations, cohort discussion facilitation, workshop activity management, and collaboration with project staff as needed for program alignment.
The Digital Skills Trainer will be responsible for leading 12 remote, cohort-based training programs, each consisting of approximately 9 instructional hours, and for supporting participant progress and program completion across both live sessions and independent learning components. The Cohorts will run between July 2026 and October 2027. Specific cohort timing will be determined and agreed upon in advance. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting virtual hands-on training classes and working as a faculty, adjunct faculty, teacher, or trainer at a university, community college, or educational institution.
This is a temporary, project-based consulting engagement. The consultant will operate as an independent contractor (1099), is not eligible for benefits, and will retain discretion over work methods within the agreed scope of services. The consultant is free to provide services to other clients during the term of this engagement.
Scope of Consulting Services
Training Management
• Develop and refine curriculum content, instructional materials, and learning activities aligned with program objectives
• Lead and facilitate virtual training sessions on data analysis and data visualization, consistent with agreed-upon program outcomes
• Guide participants through hands-on activities and applied learning exercises
• Foster an engaging, inclusive, and supportive virtual learning environment, including effective management of the LMS, communications via email, and facilitation of sessions on Zoom and Google Meet
• Facilitate discussions and encourage participant interaction and collaboration
• Design and structure cohort-based learning experiences, including session sequencing, pacing, and learning milestones, in alignment with program objectives
Participant Support & Engagement
• Provide general instructional support to participants during training sessions and throughout the program
• Support participant engagement and learning during sessions
• Maintain clear communication with participants regarding session expectations and learning objectives
Program Coordination & Program Improvement Support
• Provide feedback and recommendations to DE project staff to support improvements to curriculum, facilitation methods, and cohort processes
• Coordinate with DEs staff to ensure smooth session delivery
Skills and Qualifications:
Required:
• Minimum of 4 years of skills training experience, primarily in data-related topics
• Significant experience teaching adult learners, particularly in data-related topics
• Demonstrated experience facilitating cohort-based training programs or structured learning environments
• Strong experience implementing synchronous and asynchronous virtual courses and live online instruction
• Strong virtual workshop design, presentation, and facilitation skills
• Experience developing dashboards and other data visualizations using data visualization software (e.g, Tableau, Power BI)
• Strong communication, operations, and organizational skills
• Fluency in English
Highly Valued:
• Proficiency in Google Workspace, particularly Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms
• Advanced proficiency in data visualization tools and applied use of AI technologies
• Experience using Microsoft Excel for data cleaning, analysis, and reporting
• Veteran status preferred
• Graduate degree in a relevant field such as Education, Data Science, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or Artificial Intelligence or equivalent practical experience
• Experience teaching adult learners virtually in either a Faculty or Adjunct Faculty role
