Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Disaster Recovery Implementation Engineer to deliver a hands-on DR buildout for a VMware vCenter environment. This contract role reports directly to the Director of Datacenter & Server Operations. You will be responsible for designing, configuring, testing, and documenting a Veeam-based recovery solution for 11 virtual machines (Windows Server 2022 and Ubuntu 22.04) at an existing physical DR site.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement immutable backup protections using Veeam Backup & Replication (v11+) Backup Copy Jobs, Linux Hardened Repository (XFS), and/or Object Lock where applicable.
• Configure SureBackup to verify backup recoverability in isolated labs; generate and maintain verification reports.
• Integrate Secure Restore with YARA scanning to prevent malware reintroduction during restores.
• Implement VM replication to DR, build Failover Plans, and configure Re-IP rules to accommodate different production/DR subnets.
• Produce core delivery artifacts: Low Level Design (LLD), Acceptance Test Plan (ATP) with app and system test cases, Migration Plan, IP/subnet documentation, vendor contact and escalation matrix, and full DR runbooks.
• Execute VM migrations/registrations to DR using Veeam; perform integrity checks, OS/service validation, and connectivity verification.
• Reconfigure application settings as required (e.g., database connection strings, service accounts, certificates, DNS entries).
• Coordinate and open vendor support tickets; drive issue resolution across third-party tools (e.g., BeyondTrust, Microsoft, Rapid7, Palo Alto).
• Conduct failover and failback testing per ATP; document results, performance benchmarks, and remediation actions.
• Provide knowledge transfer and walkthroughs of DR procedures, escalation paths, and ongoing test recommendations.
Technical Environment
• Virtualization: VMware vCenter
• Data Protection: Veeam Backup & Replication v11+ (Immutable Repos, Backup Copy, Replication, SureBackup, Secure Restore/YARA)
• Operating Systems: Windows Server 2022; Ubuntu 22.04
• Key Applications
• Windows: AD Audit Plus; BeyondTrust (CA, TX); KnowBe4 ADI Sync; Microsoft Purview Protection Scanners; Metasploit Pro; SpyCloud AD Guardian
• Linux: Rapid7; XDR; Palo Alto Cortex XSOAR
Required Qualifications
• 3 5 years in DR/data protection or systems engineering for VMware environments.
• Hands-on expertise with Veeam v11+: immutable storage (Linux Hardened Repo/Object Lock), Backup Copy, Replication, SureBackup, Secure Restore/YARA, Failover Plans, and Re-IP.
• Solid VMware vCenter administration and multi-subnet DR networking fundamentals (DNS/IP/DHCP considerations).
• Strong documentation skills (LLD, ATP, runbooks, vendor matrices, diagrams).
• Proven ability to work independently while collaborating closely with leadership and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with application-layer continuity (e.g., DFS-R, SQL Server Availability Groups, AD sites/services).
• Familiarity with security tool recovery patterns (Rapid7, XSOAR, BeyondTrust, Purview).
• Veeam VMCE or equivalent experience.
• PowerShell/Bash for light automation and validation scripting.
